New RK: the updated series of inside cylinder magnetostrictive transducers
Ever since it was launched, Gefran’s series of rod-type magnetostrictive transducers for inside cylinder applications was a great success, confirming the product’s quality and its satisfaction of market demands.
Thanks to positive feedback, Gefran continued to invest in R&D, revising the entire RK series, simplifying the range, and making performance compatible with even higher application demands.

The RK series is now available in two basic models, depending on the type of installation needed: RK-2, with flanged head for complete insertion inside the cylinder (done during cylinder assembly), and RK-4, with threaded head for partial insertion inside the cylinder (done from the outside even after cylinder assembly).

Both models have very small electronics integrated in the sensor head, which reduces head size to a minimum.

The electrical connection is designed for maximum simplicity and efficiency, depending on the application:
• model RK-2 is designed to be completely integrated in the cylinder, and calls for a PUR axial cable output suitable for mobile applications;
• model RK-4 calls for the head to remain outside the cylinder, and is designed with an M12 connector output that further reduces head size while providing a strong and protected solution that is simple to install and service.

Both models share all other characteristics:
• resistance to working pressures of 350 bar with max. 500 bar peaks;
• high resistance to vibration up to 20 g;
• working temperature from -30°C to +90°C;
• strokes available from 50 to 4000 mm;
• high accuracy (linearity up to ±0.02% FS, infinite resolution)
• power supply from 18 to 30 VDC.

Both models are available with analog interfaces in current or in voltage. The voltage output can be ordered in a version that allows the transducer to be fed at 12 VDC. A version with digital start/stop interface is also available, permitting the use of a connection cable with maximum length of 50 metres as well as the use of optional remote electronics (feedable anywhere from 10 to 30 VDC) that convert the digital signal into advanced analog interfaces or CANopen with advanced functions such as programming the actual transducer stroke.

Thanks to this revision, the RK series maintains all of the features that made it the ideal solution for hydraulic applications in the automation, earth moving, building, and energy sectors, and adds new details that make it even simpler, more effective, and easier to install and service.
