igus conducts over 5,000 tests every year on its polymer bearing range at the company’s state-of-the-art bearings test laboratory. The tests carried out accurately measure friction values, wear rates, drive forces and abrasion over long periods of time. Factors such as environmental contamination, weathering, cold and impact are also examined.
The result of all this testing is a wealth of data to give designers the most accurate information about the predicted lifetime and performance of the product they require. It also allows igus to build data bases, such as the life time calculator, which allows engineers to access this information for their individual application. If, however, there is a specific problem a design engineer is facing, on which there is no previous data, the igus lab will gladly conduct tests to meet these requirements.
