The range also introduces several new features that enhance the performance of this proven design and encourage its wider application. The Z-Series is subject to no less than 8 patents either registered or pending. Its performance, service life, duty cycle and load carrying capabilities are exceptional. Important contributors to this include a new dual lubrication system that allows the gearbox and spindle to be independently and efficiently greased. The Screw Jack design also has cooling fins to improve heat dissipation.
From an installation point-of-view the Z-Series is extremely flexible. It is more lightweight than its forerunners and comes with several mounting options to increase its application potential. A pivot bearing integrated into the gearbox housing allows the unit to be orientated to its optimum position through 360°.
In common with the existing ZIMM range, the Z-Series is available in a variety of sizes for lifting requirements up to 25kN and in four standard variants. As well as the TR model with trapezoidal thread, a KGT version with ballscrew is also available to reduce friction. In addition the AB Anti-Backlash version is ideal for low duty applications where adjustment to play needs to be made under alternating loads. It is therefore perfect for use in meter roller systems. The method of setting is by a simple nut that can be adjusted by the engineer to remove excess backlash in this system.
The fourth option has a SIFA safety nut that provides tension and compression load protection. In the unlikely event of the main nut failing, the safety nut will carry the full load. A sensor may be specified that stops the system when it detects thread-wear in excess of 20% of the screw pitch.
The standard corrosion protection that characterises the ZIMM Z-Series is an environmentally-friendly coating. It covers the gearbox, drive and other exposed steel components; the spindle itself is of course stainless steel. The Z-Series is therefore an attractive option for a range of manufacturing environments. These include the food and pharmaceutical sectors where hygiene is an issue and electronics or medical device production where cleanroom conditions prevail. The range is also eminently suited to outdoor applications.
