Should we choose high precision and top running behaviour – or compromise on accuracy for the sake of freely combinable carriages and guide rails? This was the decision every machine tool designer used to face when it came to selecting linear guides to construct linear axles. Linear guides that offered a very high level of precision had the disadvantage that the carriage and rail were generally designed to work together, meaning they were not freely interchangeable.
This disadvantage is now a thing of the past. The PH linear guides, which NSK will present for the first time at the EMO trade fair, allow carriages and rails of the same size to be freely combined, where previously this high accuracy was only possible through paired systems. This makes it easier to produce machines and to replace precision linear guides during servicing. What’s more, the linear guides are available off the shelf.
NSK achieved this simplification by optimising production processes and producing to tighter tolerances. This means that higher precision rails and carriages can now be freely combined. Just like NSK’s existing ranges of linear guides, products from the PH series are self-aligning. This makes mounting easier.
The new PH class is available with various different guide carriage types in sizes 15 to 45. All of the designs run much smoother and boast significantly better guaranteed precision than the existing PC class, which already offers very good performance. As for its other series, NSK offers a wide range of options for the new linear guides, such as K1 lubrication units and various types of wipers.
With these properties, the PH linear guides are suitable for applications that require very quiet running. The linear units are also rigid enough to be used for demanding applications, especially in the machine tool industry.
