The automotive industry is preparing for Industry 4.0 rollouts by making large-scale changes to all of their processes, from design and engineering to production and aftermarket. The method of dimensional inspection, on the other hand, is still largely traditional, especially in the body-in-white (BIW) phase.

The release of IPC-2591, Connected Factory Exchange (CFX), has been announced by IPC. The electronics industry now has an industry standard available to all companies in the industry, regardless of size or location which can be used to quickly and easily implement Industry 4.0 and smart factory applications to their manufacturing operations.
