Sapa will be showcasing the leading entries from its Young Designers Competition, as part of its sponsored display at Advanced Engineering 2016, which takes place at Birmingham’s NEC on 2 & 3 November. The Young Designers Competition was created to encourage final year design students at UK universities to work with aluminium, and to exploit all of the design capabilities the material allows.

The aim is for each student to produce a product in which the use of aluminium extrusion forms an integral part. The Sapa-sponsored display at Advanced Engineering 2016 will feature the most innovative and commercially viable submissions, as judged by a panel of senior extrusion design experts at Sapa. This provides visitors with the opportunity to see the pioneering work from the young designers of today.

Katie Crocombe, Advanced Engineering Event Director, comments: “We are thrilled to welcome The Young Designers Competition to the show. It is fantastic that we are able to showcase the ground-breaking work of these enthusiastic design students live on the exhibition floor.

“Innovation is at the heart of everything we do, and we are firm supporters of any initiative that helps pioneer the industry, challenging current methods and technologies. The show provides the perfect platform for these students to demonstrate what the designers of today can bring to the industry.”

Myles Grennan, Marketing Manager for Sapa Profiles UK remarks: “The Sapa Young Students Design Competition is an initiative intended to raise the awareness and understanding of young designers regarding the features, benefits and possibilities of design using aluminium extrusions. We encourage and welcome all UK Universities to engage with the programme, which is much more than a design competition.

In addition to the offer of industrial visits, guest lectures, and technical support, the display at Advanced Engineering, the UK’s leading engineering event, is designed to give the designers and engineers of the future a platform to display their own creative abilities to potential employers and/or investors”.

Advanced Engineering returns to the NEC Birmingham, on 2 & 3 November 2016, with a wealth of industry support, the largest Open Conference of its kind, more than 700 exhibitors and 80 industry associations on board.
