Having the chance to compete for the Design Challenge trophy, in a competition hosted by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, is six university teams. The Design Challenge Competition gives undergraduates a taste of the ‘real world’ of engineering by setting them a challenge to design and create a device to a strict technical specification.
The challenge is open to six university teams, with one from each region (Greater London, North East, North West, Wessex, Midlands and Yorkshire. The competition aims to give students practical experience to complement their theoretical knowledge and give them an edge in the jobs market. The winner from each of the regional competitions will go through to the National Final to compete for the Design Challenge trophy.
