Machine vision for Industry 4.0 at HANNOVER MESSE 2017

MVTec Software will be presenting its portfolio at HANNOVER MESSE from 24th-28th April, including its latest release, MERLIC 3. Machine vision is a key technology for highly automated scenarios of the Industrial Internet of Things (resp. Industry 4.0).

Interested parties can experience the new releases of MERLIC and HALCON on-site in the Robotics, Automation & Vision Application Park at booth E42 in hall 17. The exhibition highlights are practice-oriented live demonstrations that provide insights into machine vision scenarios. MERLIC, for example, makes it possible to create professional machine vision applications based on images and without any in-depth programming knowledge, thus providing access to new user groups.

MERLIC 3: Deep learning optimises OCR
One demo visualises how machine vision increases the performance of Optical Character Recognition (OCR). MERLIC 3, the new version of the machine vision software MERLIC, can reliably read fonts on packaging, such as the sell-by date or batch numbers, based on deep learning technologies.

A brand new video shown at the booth also gives transparent insights into deep-learning-based OCR technologies with MERLIC. The demonstration also shows how MERLIC seamlessly integrates a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and visualises the remote frontend on a mobile platform.

MVTec also presents a second demo for the latest version 13 of HALCON, the company’s additional standard software for machine vision. It demonstrates how HALCON reliably detects defects in fabric with the aid of its new, user-friendly texture inspection. Furthermore, a video shows information on the wide range of functions available in HALCON Embedded.

Presentation on efficient surface inspection
Another highlight is the presentation on ‘Efficient surface inspection using standard machine vision software’ by MVTec Managing Director Dr. Olaf Munkelt. The expert will give this talk in the Industrial Automation Forum at booth L19 in hall 14 on 24th April from 2:20pm to 2:40pm.

Based on various application examples, the presentation provides an overview of machine vision performance in an automation context and describes how standard software benefits customers. The audience will learn ways to precisely inspect the surfaces of workpieces and reliably identify defective products as well as remove them at an early stage in the production process.
