Longview Advisors, organizers of the annual Collaboration & Interoperability Conference and Exhibition (CIC), today announced an additional event to its 2009 agenda, “The Latest in Mobility Technology.” Hosted by Intel, Microsoft, Lenovo and Razorleaf, the post-conference workshop will give CIC attendees an in-depth look at emerging mobile computing capabilities.
The fifth annual CIC event brings together experts and executives from a broad range of discrete manufacturing industries, as well as representatives from the government and defense communities, to discuss the latest strategies and solutions in collaboration and interoperability. The only vendor-neutral conference in the world addressing these critical topics, the CIC provides a unique opportunity to interact, learn, and share experiences with thought leaders of the industry. The conference and exhibition takes place May 18-20 in Estes Park, Colorado. Full event details are available at www.3DCIC.com.

The mobility demonstration, one of three extended sessions in the last afternoon of the conference, shows off the latest in mobile solutions. Wes Shimanek, Strategic Marketing Manager of Technical Computing at Intel will lead a live demonstration of the newest in mobile workstations and explain the coming technological changes that will result in even greater power in mobile devices. “We want to show how mobile workstations can enable you innovate not just for your customer,” says Shimanek, “but with your customer.”

Don Richardson, Director of Global Innovation and PLM Industry Strategy at Microsoft Corporation continues the discussion with his presentation, “Collaboration without Boundaries,” which examines the opportunities that the modern engineer has to collaborate on a near real-time basis with colleagues and associates anywhere in the world. Richardson will outline the emerging breed of application that unifies the growing diversity of mobile devices – phone, instant messaging, video messaging as well as video and web conferencing -- onto a common communications platform.

“To collaborate efficiently while your team is in the office, overseas or traveling,” says Richardson, “there has to be an effective means to consolidate your information and devices.”

Derek Neiding, Principal Consultant at Razorleaf Corporation, will also present his ideas of adapting workflows with mobile devices through Microsoft SharePoint. Workflows both simple and complex can be implemented “out of the box” with no programming required. Neiding will explain the capabilities of SharePoint Designer as well as a number of third-party add-ons that extend SharePoint’s power to workflow, document approval, and Web-based forms without any programming.

These software tools, according to Nieding, can help to formalize and automate workflows throughout the enterprise. “Subject matter experts in Quality Control, Operations, Finance, Engineering and Information Technology can configure processes that guide documents and forms through sophisticated electronic workflows that provide notification to employees of actionable items, and visibility to managers, showing where work is in the process and a record of who did what, when, and why.”
