Altair Engineering, Inc., announced that the 5th European HTC, held from November 7th – 9th, attracted more than 500 engineers, managers and simulation experts from 25 countries. Among the broad scope of topics, this year’s conference covered lightweight design, composites, optimization, CFD, NVH, crash, and more. The first conference day started with the academic user day and three technology workshops on CFD, NVH, and composites. Following the workshops, attendees had the opportunity to visit the technology showcase with customers’ exhibits and partner booths to gain insight into innovative client projects and partner solutions.
Jim Scapa, Chairman and CEO of Altair reported in his keynote presentation a worldwide revenue growth of over 28% during the last year. Dr. Detlef Schneider and Paolo Sansalvadore from Altair presented product news for the suite’s solver and modeling tools. Martin Kemp, Altair, used his keynote presentation to inform about the optimization progress of composite materials. Customer keynote presentations came from Dallara, Daimler, Diehl Aircabin, Ford, Kirchhoff Automotive and Opel. The Keynote presentation: “Flow Simulation Using AcuSolve to Improve Railway Vehicles” of Tetsuro Sato, Nippon Sharyo Ltd, was voted by the attendees as the best presentation of this year’s European HTC.

“We are very pleased with the outcome of this year’s conference, said Dr. Michael Hoffmann, Senior Vice President European Operations, Altair. “By putting a lot of emphasis on topics that our customers wish to hear about and like to discuss, we ensure the ongoing growth of our conference. We see a constantly growing demand for optimization and simulation methods and tools in all industries and engineers are keen to learn about how our solutions can help them address their challenges. In addition, we also see an increasing interest in consolidating software costs, and we provide the answer with our patented flexible licensing system and the offerings of the HyperWorks Partner Alliance.”

Special highlights of this year‘s conference were customers’ exhibits, all developed with HyperWorks. Among those were an NVH driving simulator, the “S-Works + McLaren Venge” racing bike, a Formula3 car from Dallara, a mobile crane from Tadano Faun and the new Opel Ampera. The development processes of these and many other products developed with HyperWorks and HyperWorks partner products were described in almost 100 keynote and technical presentations on November 8th and 9th.

It has been an honor to attend the 5th European HyperWorks Technology Conference as a keynote speaker,” said Luca Pignacca, Chief Designer and EU Racing Business Leader, Dallara. “In our presentation we have outlined the advantages of CFRP materials in the design and manufacture of racing car survival cells and crash structures, as well as the skills we have acquired during the last 25 years. The event organized by Altair has become increasingly important over the years, not only to remain aligned with the state-of-the-art of FEA technologies, but it is also an opportunity to meet with new partners and reinforce existing relationships.

The presentations and the topics discussed at the European HTC demonstrated that optimization, composites, CFD and crash-simulation were of major interest to attendees of all industries. Dedicated “Meet the Experts” sessions focused on news around HyperWorks 11 and provided the opportunity to discuss future development plans with the development team of the CAE suite. The topics of this year’s Meet the Expert sessions were: modeling and visualization, optimization, NVH, CFD, and the suite’s FE-Solver, RADIOSS.

On November 8th, Altair announced four new partners to the HyperWorks Partner Alliance (HWPA). Many of the partners offering their products under the HyperWorks Units model presented their solutions in the technical showcase and in presentations. Among the exhibitors of the HWPA were
HBM nCode, Software Cradle, eXstream, FLUIDON, KeytoMetals, Magna ECS, and tass. Prof. Gipser, Cosin, presented his HWPA solution in a presentation on tire simulation. Other sponsors and exhibitors were: HP/Intel, AllHex, Bull, Clustervision, Code PS, Humenatics, IHF, IntelligentLight, Intes, M.TEC, NAFEMS, SGI, Simtech, TECOSIM, Tital, and Viro Engineering.
