Miniature versions of both moving coils and moving magnet voice coil actuators are now being offered by H2W Technologies. H2W has built its smallest moving magnet voice coil actuator (NCM01-04-001-2IB) to date, with an outside diameter of 0.40" (10mm) and a length of 0.735" (18.8mm). It has a stroke of 0.10" (2.5mm) and generates a continuous force of 0.10lbs (0.45N) and a peak force of 0.30lbs (1.35N). It weighs just 0.20oz (5.7g).
This actuator utilizes a hardened shaft and sliding contact bushing to ensure long life, and is ideal for oscillatory motion. The compact design allows the actuator to be used in a number of handheld applications. Moving magnet voice coil actuators have built-in bearings so there is no need for the customer to add mass or complexity to their motion system to integrate a bearing, and there are no moving leads to worry about cable management.
The smallest moving coil voice coil actuator they offer (NCC01-04-001-1X) has an outside diameter of 0.44" (11.1mm) and a length of 0.36" (9mm). It has a stroke of 0.13" (3.2mm) and generates a continuous force of 0.06lbs (0.27N) and a peak force of 0.18lbs (0.8N). It weighs just 0.20oz (5.7g).
The bobbin has been constructed of plastic to prevent any damping forces that a metallic bobbin would create. The compact design allows the actuator to be used in a number of handheld applications.
