Latest software allows for safe web integration

Although a new modular SCADA platform Movicon.NExT has been launched since, the company’s original Movicon product is also receiving ongoing updates and developments.

The newly released version, Movicon 11.6 is the result of software compatibility requirements and user feedback. This has allowed Progea to include updates that current users need and allow for how they expect to develop their automation and control systems in the coming years. One of the key trends apparent today is that users want more access to their control systems via the web.

Movicon 11.6 provides web access using HTML5 for structuring and presenting content on the web. It supports multimedia and mobile solutions, and is backward-compatible with older versions. A fundamental characteristic of HTML5 is that it is designed to allow web access in a way that is safe, open and standardised, so that the Movicon SCADA control system – and therefore the plant – are fully protected.

“Movicon version 11.6 includes many improvements and enhancements,” said Paul Hurst of UK distributor P4A. “Perhaps the most important is the addition of an updated web client providing functionality such as using mobile devices to control the plant remotely, while protecting from basic malware and hacking.”

Several existing functions have also been enhanced. For instance, the Toolbox has been updated with new graphic objects, such as new styles of buttons, selectors and gauges.

Movicon 11.6 not only extends the capabilities of SCADA technology, it also extends its life expectancy, as Hurst explained: “Movicon 11 is very popular and has a large installed base around the world. Existing users can easily upgrade to version 11.6 which means both they and any new users will have a highly capable control system providing up-to-date SCADA functionality for many years to come.”
