Altair today announced that UK-based military vehicle developer Creation UK deployed Altair’s HyperWorks simulation tools for a new design of armoured vehicles to improve the survivability of occupants in the event of a blast impact. “HyperWorks is my preferred application because it’s efficient, intuitive, easy-to-use and offers great reporting capability,” said Louise Ashby, Chief Design Analyst, Creation UK.
“We used the HyperWorks tools extensively for the development of the new Zephyr range of armoured vehicles to ensure adequate strength and durability of the chassis, suspension and cab, and as a result met the strict design criteria set by the defence sector.”

Several tools in the HyperWorks package were used as part of the development process: HyperMesh generated different types of FEA models – individual components, assemblies and full vehicle models, and these were analysed in RADIOSS to ensure compliance with automotive and defence design requirements. The results were then post-processed in HyperView. Designing and developing these vehicles in a virtual environment also enabled Creation UK to reduce the cost of physical prototyping as well as development time.

“HyperWorks has given us a commercial advantage over our competitors,” said Robin Hall, Technical Director, Creation UK. “The HyperWorks simulation suite has significantly reduced the total time and cost in the design, development and testing phases of the vehicle programs that we have been involved with. The use of HyperWorks is now a fully integrated step in our design process because it helps us deliver designs that we are confident are fit for purpose while enabling us to meet the tight deadlines that we must work to.”

“We are very pleased to see the business benefits HyperWorks delivers for Creation UK,” said Hakan Ekman, Managing Director of Altair – Northern Europe. “The HyperWorks tools have a strong reputation for delivering results in the defence sector and we are pleased to learn that their functionality and capability make them an attractive tool of choice for Creation UK, which helps them to save development time and costs,” he added.
