Underlining the growing strength of its digital prototyping solutions offering to the offshore oil and gas industry, Autodesk, a world leader in 2D and 3D design and engineering software, has announced two key new customer wins.
They are Genesis Oil & Gas Consultants, a market-leading consultancy focused on providing engineering and technical services to the upstream industry, and Futuretec, which designs, manufactures and delivers innovative casing products to leading oil and gas operators.
Genesis is using a combination of Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk 3ds Max Design and Autodesk AutoCAD software to develop detailed engineering designs based on digital prototyping techniques and incorporating everything from initial conceptual studies to the as-built fabrication of subsea oil and gas projects.
Paul Soutar, subsea director, Genesis Oil & Gas Consultants says, “the ability to use Autodesk software to visualise systems before they are built gives us a competitive advantage which helps increase our exposure to potential new clients and improve our prospects of winning work in the future. The software’s intelligent modelling capability also enhances our design process by allowing us to obtain higher quality and more useable data.”
Futuretec uses Autodesk Inventor software to develop high-quality designs of its casing solutions. By minimising the need to produce expensive and time-consuming physical prototypes, Autodesk software helps Futuretec to accelerate the engineering process. Ease-of-use is another key benefit, according to Lance Davis, the company’s chief executive. “Recent graduates joining our design team are familiar with working in a 3D digital prototyping environment. This has shortened the learning curve involved in using Autodesk Inventor and allowed them to quickly become proficient with the software.”
Richard Blatcher, head of marketing - manufacturing industry group (MFG) & plant solutions EMEA, Autodesk, says: “We are seeing a growing number of engineering companies in the offshore oil and gas sector deciding to invest in Autodesk Inventor software and other Autodesk solutions for digital prototyping.
“To achieve commercial success, these companies must maintain optimum levels of design quality,” Blatcher adds. “At the same time, they need to reduce costs and streamline an increasingly complex supply chain.
“Our rapidly expanding base of customers clearly demonstrates how our solutions for digital prototyping can be a source of competitive advantage in this environment, helping to reduce product developments costs, support efficient data management and increase accuracy and innovation.”
