Aerotech’s new Motion Designer software provides an easy-to-use graphical user interface for generating, analysing motion trajectories and also improving the performance of complex motion profiles. The software greatly simplifies trajectory programming and reduces development time where an exact motion profile, simulating a dynamic environment or real-world conditions, needs to be generated. Furthermore, applications requiring optimal performance can also benefit with detailed motion analysis tools and iterative learning control algorithms that reduce following error and cycle times over multiple runs.

CCE, a leading provider of CAD/CAM data translation and viewer products, has announced that EnSuite Version 2 – its multi-CAD viewing, translation and productivity software – has been upgraded to provide support for Pro/E Wildfire 4.0, Unigraphics NX5 and Parasolid 19 files. The latest version of EnSuite can open Pro/E Wildfire 4.0, UG NX5 and Parasolid 19 files and translate them to any of the other formats currently supported by EnSuite including CATIA V4, CATIA V5, Pro/ENGINEER, Unigraphics, SolidWorks, Parasolid, IGES and STEP. “This update shows our continuous commitment to keep pace with latest releases of all leading CAD systems and formats,” says Vinay Wagle, V.P. Noran Engineering, Inc. will demonstrate new software at the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Conference (AUVSI) in San Diego, CA June 10-12. NEi’s software portfolio allows engineers to virtually test air, land, and maritime vehicles and components for mechanical stress, deformation, vibration, thermal and other technical parameters at the design stage before prototypes or parts are fabricated. Altair Engineering today announced the release of Altair HyperWorks 9.0, the next generation of its popular integrated suite of computer-aided engineering (CAE) software applications.

Flomerics has announced regular workshops on how to optimize the thermal performance of data centers using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation software. The workshops will explain how to simulate the thermal performance of an existing or planned data center configuration using templates and libraries that enable users to simply drag and drop building blocks into the model.

Crane Aerospace & Electronics used Flomerics’ Flotherm thermal simulation software to develop an unusual heatsink that works in the vertical or horizontal orientation. The heatsink is for a DC power subsystem for a commercial airliner. Developing an entirely new heatsink geometry that would have met the performance requirements would have taken an enormous amount of time using conventional build and test methods. Instead Crane Mechanical Engineer Mark Resler simulated a range of different heatsink configurations using thermal simulation software. He determined that an unusual design with a plate and standoffs provided the best performance.

An active chilled beam cooling system played a key role in delivering an expected 20% reduction in cooling and ventilation energy consumption at the new Genomic Science Building at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The system was developed by Affiliated Engineers, Inc. in collaboration with the project architect, Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill LLP. Engineers at Affiliated Engineers, Inc. used Flomerics’ Flovent computational fluid dynamics software to optimize the cooling system and maximize the energy savings.
