Known these days for being at the heart of the UK manufacturing sector, the welding industry is an industry looking at a skills shortage with impending consequences in the future. Not as well-known yet perhaps, is the skills revolution being led by Learn to Weld, the education division of UK welding product company Weldability Sif. This Hertfordshire-based business has recently teamed up with the Department for Work and Pensions and the education provider, Learn Direct to deliver a Sector Based Work Academy (SBWA) in welding.

Recent job cuts and the state of the economy could be seen as a cause for concern for a number of people considering welding as a career option. Many are confused by the seemingly contradictory information they sometimes receive about the future of the industry.

Weldability-Sif has launched the SifWeld MTS 400, an electronically controlled MIG/MAG/MMA industrial welding package featuring IGBT inverter technology. With clear digital displays, low-spatter, polarity reversal (for FCAW) and integral 4-roll wire feed system able to accommodate up to 15kg of wire spools, the unit is designed for use in heavy-duty fabrication applications such as structural steel and marine/shipyard tasks.

Extractability has announced that they are now selling a new range of vent to atmosphere (VTA) systems, as packages consisting of suction arms, cranes and hoses.

The company has launched the DGUV/IFA approved ProtectoReclenz unit that is a mobile welding fume cartridge filter unit. The mobile welding filter is compliant with DIN EN ISO 15012-1: 03/2005 and is suitable for category W3 stainless welding fumes (>30% Ni+Cr). This mobile unit weighs only 150 kg and is supplied on swivel castors for manoeuvrability

Weldability-Sif has helped to provide a college with a new training facility that is giving young people a fresh look at the manufacturing industry.

Extractability is proud to present the ProtectoSpark, a groundbreaking new product for the UK market and one that is proven to prolong the life of filters.

Weldability-Si are able to design and install welding bays to any configuration using a modular walling system. Welding bays are constructed using floor-mounted acoustic panels that are manufactured for epoxy coated steel with a sound absorbing core. Panels are secure to the workshop floor via adjustable brackets which allow for uneven surfaces.

Extractability has launched the ProtectoXtract Mobile Welding Fume Extraction unit with filtration that has been approved by the DGUV/IFA (Institute of Occupational Health Standards). This approved mobile extraction system provides filtration of metal particulate fumes, dusts and some gases and can be used where Welding and Grinding applications take place. 

Weldability-Sif have added two highly experienced Strategic Account Managers to their team to assist with the increase in demand for Weldability Sif products that has been experienced in the past few years. Brian Ennis will provide a support service for all existing and new customers in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Weldability-Sif has booked a stand (7-F105) at the World’s largest welding exhibition ‘Schweissen und Schneiden’ in Essen, Germany from 16th – 21st September 2013. This is the first time that the Company has exhibited at this show for a number of years, but with the Company continuing to develop its market and business both in the UK and overseas, the decision was made to exhibit the Company’s products to the World’s buyers of welding equipment.

Designed for the professional fabrication welder, this new welding inverter provides the user with an economic all-in-one machine covering 3 welding processes.

According to the Office of National Statistics, over the last five years, almost a quarter of all registered and certified welders in the UK have left the industry, representing a decline of 18,000 welders. With only 58,000 UK welders, the UK Borders Agency has placed high integrity pipe welders with three-plus years experience on the occupational shortage list.
