Sir David McMurtry, Chairman and Chief Executive of global engineering company Renishaw plc, has been honoured with the prestigious General Pierre Nicolau Award by the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP). The award, which was presented to Sir David at the Academy’s annual assembly in Pisa, Italy during August, is presented each year to individuals who have made significant and distinguished contributions within the field of production engineering.

Renishaw, a global engineering company, has recently appointed Paul Gallagher as Managing Director of Renishaw Shanghai (Trading) Co Ltd, which oversees the company’s business activities in China. Prior to the new appointment, Gallagher ran Renishaw’s operation in Singapore and was also Sales Director of Renishaw Shanghai.

A Madrid-based precision engineering business specialising in complex parts for aerospace and defence applications has invested in a Renishaw REVO™ five-axis measuring head and probe system. The change has resulted in a reduction in inspection time by as much as a factor of 5, ensuring quality control and inspection keep up with its high-productivity CNC machine tools.

Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre, His Royal Highness The Duke of York, officially opened the UK’s MACH2010 exhibition using an advanced laser system manufactured by Gloucestershire-based engineering technologies company, Renishaw plc.

Renishaw,is giving its full backing to a new educational initiative that is running as part of MACH 2010, the UK’s largest exhibition for manufacturing technologies. ANT Industries, a supplier to Rolls-Royce, has cut inspection times on complex parts by up to 83%, using Renishaw’s REVO five-axis measurement system fitted to a Metris CMM.

Renishaw is introducing another innovative measurement product that is expected to transform inspection performance on a wide range of co-ordinate measuring machines (CMMs). Utilising technology developed for the multi-award winning REVO® measurement system, the new PH20 probe head offers unique ‘head touches’ for rapid touch-trigger measurement, and fast infinite 5-axis positioning to guarantee optimal feature access. Its compact design makes it suitable for new CMM purchases and as a retrofit to the vast majority of existing CMM touch-trigger installations.

Renishaw will focus on its latest range of optical incremental encoders , optical absolute encoders and magnetic encoders when it exhibits at MTEC, the sensors, measurement and instrumentation show, which takes place at the NEC, Birmingham, UK from 27-28 April. Demonstrations will include a new 1 nm resolution version of its established TONiC incremental encoder, a new magnetic chip encoder, and a groundbreaking absolute optical encoder for rotary and linear applications that is capable of 10 atoms resolution at 220 mph.

Renishaw’s DSi (Dual Signal interface) is now available with its TONiC™ family of incremental optical encoders, bringing even higher accuracy to rotary axes and giving customers a selectable reference mark position via the company’s propoZ™ technology.
