French technology company, IRELEC Alcen, based in Grenoble, manufactures optomechanical and robotics systems for synchrotron facilities worldwide. A synchrotron (a type of particle accelerator) is an extremely powerful source of X-rays, which is used for scientific research in fields such as materials physics, chemistry and molecular biology. One example of such a facility is the Diamond Light Source (DLS) in Oxfordshire, UK.

Haozhi Mechanical and Electrical (Haozhi), based in China, is a company focused on direct-drive technology for machine tool and robotics applications. Direct-Drive (DD) motors are electric motors that directly transmit power to the application without the use of mechanical reduction elements such as gears, pulleys, chains or belts. DD technology for linear motors and rotary tables has matured in recent years.

Bringing music to engineering
Renishaw has teamed up with the Bristol Music Trust charity to combine science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and music education for children in Bristol, UK. As part of the collaboration, Renishaw is demonstrating the role that fun and creativity plays in engineering by supporting Beat Lab, an interactive music-tech initiative. The company is also supporting the Trust’s ‘Transform the Hall’ project by sponsoring an education room.

A series of Girls into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) engineering days have been hosted this year by Renishaw, mainly throughout June at the Renishaw Miskin site in South Wales. These three activity days for local school girls, on June 19th, 22nd and 29th, aimed to inspire the female engineers of the future with hands-on activities and provided an introduction to career opportunities in the sector.

Brownies can now earn badge of engineering honour
  Global engineering technologies company, Renishaw, hosted a local Brownie group at its Miskin site in South Wales to help them earn a new badge in engineering. The Brownie group leader collaborated with Renishaw to give the members a project to design and engineer their own name badges for their uniforms. The girls took part in three sessions to earn their badge.

An education outreach programme that includes 139 recognised science, technology engineering and maths (STEM) ambassadors has been launched by engineering technology company, Renishaw. Apprentices, graduates and engineers at Renishaw volunteer to support and inspire young people, and offer practical advice from their own experiences. The aim is to encourage them to pursue career opportunities in an engineering or technology related career.

Renishaw engineer named as one of UK top 50 female engineers
Keeping in theme with this week’s celebrations, for International Women in Engineering Day, Lucy Ackland, Senior Development Engineer at Renishaw has been selected as one of the UK’s Top 50 Women in Engineering in 2017. The initiative is organised by The Daily Telegraph in partnership with the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) and employers in the industry. Results were announced today (23rd June 2017), coinciding with International Women in Engineering Day.

A project that enables the widespread use of 3D printing to produce bespoke maxillofacial implants, Design-led Efficient Patient Treatment (ADEPT), has won the Health and Wellbeing category at The Engineer magazine’s Collaborate to Innovate Awards held on 7th September 2016. The collaborative project draws on the academic and industrial expertise of several UK partners, including global engineering and scientific technology company Renishaw.

Opening the doors to its Gloucestershire headquarters, was engineering company Renishaw, to 108 school students for work experience in July 2016. The students took on a series of engineering projects to get a taste of what a career in the field entails. The Renishaw work experience programme aims to inspire more young people to consider STEM careers.

The first South Wales Greenpower event was hosted by engineering company Renishaw, at its Miskin site on 2nd July, 2016, which saw teams competing in the IET Formula Goblin category for primary school children. Greenpower racing events encourage young people to take an interest in engineering in a fun and innovative way by building and racing a fully functional electric car.
