Dual-Channel Magnetostrictive Encoder Improves Reliability in Linear Motors

Dual-Channel Magnetostrictive Encoder Improves Reliability in Linear Motors
MTS Sensors has announced its latest product introduction - the Temposonics A-Series “Duo” linear encoder. This compact, rugged device features two output channels - an incremental interface and a synchronous serial interface (SSI). Targeted at manufacturers under pressure to find more robust solutions for position and velocity control in electric and linear motor designs, this new device enables implementation of measurement systems requiring absolute position feedback while also maintaining an incremental encoder signal for the motor position. The ability to capture absolute position data means that recalibration is no longer necessary.

Displacement Sensor with Multi-Position Measurement

Displacement Sensor with Multi-Position Measurement
The non-contact MTS Temposonics® position sensors are now able to measure up to 30 positions along a common axis using only one sensor. Depending on the number of measuring points, an appropriate number of position magnets that all generate an individual signal travel along the sensor housing simultaneously. Each magnet is firmly assigned to a mobile machine part. Simultaneous detection of several positions permits considerable savings compared to conventional displacement sensors and rotary encoders. Due to a decreased number of position measurement systems and the compact construction of the Temposonics® sensor, the costs of displacement measurement and space requirements are reduced.
