Kollmorgen introduces the Kollmorgen Developer Network (KDN), KDN is an interactive knowledge base where Kollmorgen customers can learn from one another, receive expert advice from Kollmorgen application engineers and customer support staff, and delve into rich technical information with just a few clicks.

Making a departure from traditional drive architectures in its new P2lean generation of machines, Salvagnini the world's leading manufacturer of panel bending machines is using distributed servo amplifiers for positioning, instead of keeping drives installed centrally in the control cabinet. And with this solution, the new Kollmorgen AKD-D series generates cost savings throughout the whole value chain.

Kollmorgen has extended the maximum output current of its AKD series of servo amplifiers, opening up new areas of application. Now the range goes up to 48 Amps, twice the power of the previously largest unit in the range.

KOLLMORGEN extends its range of motion control solutions with new direct drives. The ICXH series of maintenance-free iron-core linear motors offer high power density and transmit it without any mechanical components.

The new devices have a continuous output current rating of 48 A, compared to a 24 A maximum in the past.

Kuka's compact robots in the KR Agilus series are precise, agile and fast. As agile systems these five-axis and six-axis handling units feature short cycle times and high repeatability, particularly for pick-and-place tasks. Synchronous servo motors from Kollmorgen's AKM series play a major role in achieving this high dynamic performance and precision. Using collaborative co-engineering, the two companies were able to reduce the installation volume of the motors compared to standard models, implement robot-specific applications and optimise the entire supply chain.

Decentralizing servo technology can bring machine and plant construction savings during installation. Two additional advantages include reduced cabinet heat loads and more straight forward drive architecture. The question arises however, which technology is better, an integrated motor/drive solution or a detached motor and drive?

Kollmorgen Automation Suite (KAS) software version 2.8 and AKD servo drive platform firmware version 1.12 has been launched by Kollmorgen. Additions include a higher performance version of the AKD PDMM, enhancements to the coordinated motion programming blocks and additions to the EtherCAT configuration tool. This enables OEM’s to deliver differentiated machines with greater system design flexibility, performance capability, and ease-of-use.

Kollmorgen has added additional safety features to its S700 range of servo drives. Built for high performance applications, the Motion-Safety-Concept range will offer even higher levels of safety with the optional features, “Safely Limited Position and Safely Limited Increment.

Re-using braking energy effectively and bridging of short power outages safely: Kollmorgen’s new KCM series power storage modules feature a novel robust capacitor technology that increases performance, primarily for multi-axis servo motion systems. KCM series options include a new active support module for DC intermediate circuits and a solution for short-term energy storage and re-delivery of braking energy without mains distortion. A third version is available that combines both options in a single expansion module.

This acquisition reinforces Kollmorgen’s commitment to delivering industry-leading expertise, technology and products to machine builders in these regions and throughout the world.

Kollmorgen offers new, high-performance servo drive systems with an innovative single cable connection for motor power and feedback. The highly scalable solutions are available with high-resolution Hiperface DSL absolute encoders and digital resolvers and can be used for almost all types of applications.

Kollmorgen has launched the VLM servomotor series to fill the gap between stepper and high-performance servo motors. The new VLM series synchronous servo motors offer OEMs, machine builders and end-users, an excellent price-performance proposition in the torque range of 0.5 to 4.5 Nm continuous and 16 Nm peak, with speeds of up to 6000 rpm.

Kollmorgen offers a new Ethernet-based high-performance servo drive with integrated motion control for programming drive and PLC functions. In many cases the BASIC AKD servo drives allow machine builders to forego the need for an external PLC with its associated wiring and interface programming. This allows them to save time, minimize space and reduce installation costs. In combination with the simple programming, using structured text and an integrated program editor with diagnostic functions, small applications can be realized very easily and quickly.

Kollmorgen has expanded its Kollmorgen Automation Suite motion control platform with the addition of a PROFINET interface option. The new fieldbus interface increases the communications flexibility of the automation system for machine builders and end-users alike, further enabling the realization of the best possible application performance.
