  As the Hyster brand celebrates its 90th anniversary and Hyster Europe marks over 20 years of producing electric lift trucks in Craigavon, UK, Russell Baker, Territory Manager, UK & Ireland for Hyster Europe, discusses how the use of battery powered forklifts is changing.

“Terminal operators want to reduce damage and improve efficiency when handling containers on the second rail,” said Mark Nailer, Industry Manager for Hyster Europe. “In close co-operation with terminal customers we have developed a ReachStacker with a raised cab and remote control for pedestrian operation of the boom and spreader.”

Six new Hyster electric lift trucks which feature special engineering to meet the demands of brewery operations have been provided to the Heineken Ireland site in Cork. Heineken Ireland is a wholly owned subsidiary of Heineken International.

To help avoid the costs of moving premises, Hyster Europe is helping businesses grow within their existing infrastructure thanks to space saving lift trucks. To help operations maximise their existing warehouse storage space, Hyster Europe has developed a range of IC powered Spacesaver lift trucks up to seven tonne lift capacities, and smaller footprints. 

Hyster Europe used data from telematics to create an analysis which offers insight into ways to reduce the cost per tonne moved. The overall conclusion is that productivity has a greater impact on Total Cost of Operation (TCO) compared to minimising fuel consumption. Whilst Hyster Container Handlers offer one of the lowest fuel consumption rates, this has been achieved without compromising productivity.

With electrification projects underway for the Port of Los Angeles in the US and Valencia in Spain, Hyster Europe reveals some surprising facts about the progress of the zero-emission Container Handler projects. Two Laden Container Handlers and one ReachStacker are currently in development at the Hyster Big Truck Development Centre in the Netherlands.

Hyster Europe has launched a compact Reach Truck series with a tilting mast, suited to warehouses where space is at a premium. By tilting the mast, the Hyster R1.0E, 1.2E and 1.4E Reach Trucks provide greater manoeuvrability, saving all-important centimetres so the truck can handle stock in even narrower aisles.

A new top lift Laden Container Handler has been launched by Hyster Europe, which is expected to increase productivity in busy ports and terminals, in line with increasing demands. The new Hyster Laden Container Handler stacks up to 6-high and makes first row handling faster in container block stacking applications and when shuttling containers.

A zero-emission reachstacker featuring a hydrogen fuel cell is being developed by Hyster Europe for the Port of Valencia, as part of the European Horizon 2020 programme and H2Ports project. The port will be the first in Europe to incorporate hydrogen energy in its operations.

Hyster Europe has announced that its forthcoming Stage V compliant Big Truck range for European customers will be powered by Mercedes-Benz/ MTU engines.  “Our heavy industry and port customers in Europe who will require a Stage V driveline, can continue to expect highly efficient trucks with low fuel and DEF consumption, benefiting from high productivity levels and fast operations with the power available.” said Jan Willem van den Brand, Director Big Truck Product Strategy & Solutions at Hyster Europe. 

  As the driving experience is an essential element of success in high intensity applications, Hyster Europe is focusing on enhancing the operator environment according to the application, including in the wood, metal, construction, ports and paper industries. 

At LogiMAT 2019, which takes place from 19th to 21st February in Stuttgart, Germany, Hyster Europe will present 360° solutions for warehouse and logistics applications, including a focus on innovative robotics solutions. In addition, a Reach Truck with tilting mast, particularly suited for use in confined spaces, will be on show.

Three types of lift truck attachments, with ten possible configurations, are now available straight from the factory as part of the original lift truck build, Hyster Europe has announced.  To meet the needs of many different industries, Hyster has added two factory-fit multi pallet handler attachments, plus a 360° rotator attachment. No matter which configuration is chosen, all provide quick interchange and come with a two year, or 4000-hour, warranty.

Hyster H2.0-3.5FT ICE lift trucks are now available with added value features incorporated as standard to deliver all-round benefits to demanding operations throughout the supply chain.   Every minute counts at ELA Container where mobile buildings must be loaded and unloaded quickly in the depot so that they can be used for office and school buildings, sleeping quarters and kindergartens, plus as bank branches, sanitary facilities, treatment and storage rooms. 

While reports of self-drive cars and lorries captivate mainstream media, automated lift trucks are already a reality in a growing number of operations. However, Phil Mean from Hyster Europe believes new innovations to help human operators to be more productive remains essential for counterbalance lift truck manufacturers.

  Dusty, dirty working conditions are prevalent across the construction materials supply chain and can cause big problems for forklift operations. Hyster Europe is taking a fresh approach to these challenges with their updated eight to 16 tonne lift truck series. 

To avoid unnecessary costs, damage avoidance is critical for operations handling valuable loads with a forklift truck. Hyster Europe supports applications handling high value materials with reliable trucks and a choice of attachments. The marble handling industry is one example where a specialist truck is now available from Hyster to meet demanding handling needs.

  It has been revealed by Hyster Europe, that Stage V engines, affecting both diesel and LPG engines, will be available to order in EU and other regulated markets on several of its lift truck series’ in Q4 2018, including models in its flagship Fortens IC range. 

As handling requirements in the wood production and processing industry become ever more varied, the right equipment and attachments are vital for efficient operations throughout the supply chain.
