Stage V engines for lift trucks

It has been revealed by Hyster Europe, that Stage V engines, affecting both diesel and LPG engines, will be available to order in EU and other regulated markets on several of its lift truck series’ in Q4 2018, including models in its flagship Fortens IC range.

Matthew Allen, Solutions Manager, Counterbalance and Big Trucks, for Hyster Europe, stated: “As part of our commitment to offering customers 360° solutions, Hyster lift trucks already provide a range of power options and different engines to meet various specific application needs. However, the latest engine developments are great news for customers as they will be able to specify Hyster products which both provide greater fuel efficiencies and reinforce their green credentials.”

From January 2019, Stage V emissions regulations will affect both diesel and LPG engines from 19-56kW and above 130kW. From 2020, they will also affect 56-130kW engines. In response to the new regulations, the engines for several Hyster lift truck models with 1.5 to 3.5 tonne lift capacity will be Stage V compliant from early 2019.

Allen continued: “Though the engines are being updated, operations can still expect the same reliability, performance and all-round benefits from their Hyster lift trucks. For instance, those using a two to three tonne capacity Hyster Fortens will continue to enjoy a low cost of ownership, optimal uptime, options to enhance the driver environment, and various solutions for industry specific needs including fleet management.”

For Stage V compliance, the diesel Fortens Advance Plus with a Kubota 2.4L engine will be available with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to deliver high power with low fuel consumption, low noise levels and even lower emissions.

LPG versions of the Hyster Fortens and Hyster XT forklifts with 1.5 to 3.5 tonne lift capacity will feature either a PSI or Kubota engine with control system upgrades and standard catalytic converter to treat the engine exhaust.

Allen added: “To help customers prepare for the future, we also expect to be able to provide selected 4 to 9 tonne capacity lift trucks with Stage V compliance in 2019. However, to select the best trucks for their application, customers should always discuss their exact requirements with their local dealer.”
