Federal-Mogul Powertrain announces that it has developed a new premium diesel piston aluminium alloy, called DuraForm-G91. In benchmarking tests, the new alloy – which will be on display at the IAA show in September – provides between three and five times the component life of established as-cast materials in modern, highly loaded, diesel engines. The increased strength of the new material also supports higher mechanical loads, allowing engines to operate at higher specific power and more efficiently.

The DEVA bearings division of Federal-Mogul Corporation has launched a catalogue that combines all the available spherical and axial bearings and the range of alternative materials together into a single publication. This comprehensive application guide includes all the supporting technical data, such as standard dimensions and material properties that allows users to make a quick and informed selection of the right component.

Federal-Mogul Corporation has developed a new mechanical face seal which provides superior protection in extreme environmental conditions compared with conventional solutions. Named HSL the solution uses a unique design of the elastomeric part of the seal to prevent dirt intrusion to sensitive components. Federal-Mogul presented the technology for the first time at the 2013 BAUMA event in Munich, Germany.

Federal-Mogul Corporation will exhibit a range of maintenance reducing technologies at the 2013 BAUMA Trade Fair in Munich from April 15-21 (booth A5.220). The technologies include new Goetze dirt-resistant HSL-series face seals and GLYCODUR lead-free bearing technology developed for the most arduous operating conditions. A comprehensive spherical bearing catalogue and application guide from DEVA will also be presented at the event.

Federal-Mogul has developed maintenance-free bearings for one of the world’s longest suspension bridges. On completion in 2013, the Hardanger Fjord Bridge in south west Norway will be one of the largest in the world, spanning 1,310 metres between pylons. A total of 128 spherical plain bearings using Federal-Mogul’s DEVA self-lubricating material technology will accommodate the small but essential movements that occur under load between the carriageway and its supporting cables.
