Class Zero certification for Atlas Copco’s LF and LFx oil-free piston compressors
Atlas Copco Compressors has announced that its oil-free, Class Zero certification has been extended to include the heavy duty LF and LFx family of piston compressors, the first of their type in the world to receive ISO 8573-1 CLASS 0 certification.
Available in 1.5 – 7.5 kW installed power ratings, the LF range is regarded as the most efficient and reliable technology in the piston compressor market offering exceptional reliability for heavy duty use in industrial applications. Its compact profile is the result of optimum cooling, aluminium design and a direct drive making it ideal for stand-alone use or easy integration into OEM products.

Built for high performance and a long lifetime, Atlas Copco’s LFx 0.55 –1.5 kW range of small-capacity piston compressors provides a reliable, oil-free solution for low air demands in such applications as electronics, food and beverage, laser cutting, and sprinkler operation. They ensure an energy efficient compressed air supply thanks to the patented “Super-flow” compressed air inlet system.

The LFx compressors’ capacity ranges from 1.02 up to 2.53 l/s (2.16 up to 5.36 cfm), with an optional 1- or 3-phase supply and a maximum working pressure of 10 bar (145 psi). Furthermore, with their small and compact design, they offer maximum installation flexibility.

The testing of the Atlas Copco LF and LFx piston machines was carried out by the renowned independent Technischer Überwachungs-Verein (Technical Monitoring Association, or TÜV), employing the most stringent test methods available and simulating realistic industrial environments.

Even with such rigorous testing, the TÜV found no traces of oil in the output air stream under any of the test conditions. So, for Atlas Copco’s customers, Class 0 certification means zero risk of contamination, zero risk of damaged or unsafe products, and zero risk of losses from operational downtime. Plus, zero risk of damaging a manufacturing company’s hard-won professional reputation.

Thanks to the Class 0 certification of the LF and the LFx piston machines, compressor operators with lower capacity load applications now have the opportunity to choose 100% oil-free air for their production processes.
