A BOP handling system comprises twin matched hoists used in conjunction on parallel overhead rails. Systems can be provided with joint lift capacities from 20 to 200 tonnes. Where limited headroom conditions occur, then ultra-low monorail hoists offering combined lift capacities from 8 to 24 tonnes can also be supplied.
These products comply with international standards including AP1 7K, ABS, ANSI B30.16, DNV Approval Programmes and NORSOK, together with 3.1B certification on load carrying parts, and backed-up by a worldwide service network. The hoists incorporate overload protection adjustable from 90 to 125%, with a load safety factor of 5:1, dynamic factor of 1.33 and tensile strength rating of 2.5. In addition, traceability is provided by the JDN unique parts marking system.
J D Neuhaus also provide instructions for the safe installation and operation of their BOP handling systems. This document includes information regarding the selection and reinforcement where necessary of the overhead runway beams, together with the positioning, spacing and alignment of hoists for optimum operation. The need to use lift points located on the BOP which are above its’ centre of gravity, and the need to keep trolley drives and beam flanges clear of drilling mud are indicated. The need for preventive maintenance and adequate lubrication to combat the effects of seawater and excessive component wear is also highlighted.
