WorldSkills London 2011, which takes place between the 5th-8th October at ExCel London, gives young people the opportunity to compete across a diverse range of skill areas. Categories include Construction, Planning and the Built Environment, Engineering and Manufacturing, as well as 5 other categories with a total of 46 distinct competitions. During the event 150,000 visitors are expected to see 1000 competitors from over 50 countries compete during four days of exciting competition intended to inspire a future generation.
Leen van Diggele, Atlas Copco Compressors’ General Manager, commented: “Atlas Copco is keen to support young adults in developing new skills, and is proud to be an official sponsor of World Skills 2011. The event provides a fantastic opportunity to compete and develop the skills that can shape a future career”.
The 15 competitions being powered by Atlas Copco’s GA compressors, which have been selected for their efficiency, low noise emissions and versatility, range from automotive focussed disciplines such as auto-body repair and car painting, to welding, stone masonry and the confectionery and pastry cooking competition, demonstrating the many ways in which compressed air is used. The compressors will also provide power for the manufacturing team challenge, in which teams must use several distinct skill sets including mechanical engineering and computer-aided machining to design and manufacture equipment assemblies.
Aidan Jones, CEO of WorldSkills London 2011 commented on Atlas Copco’s sponsorship saying: “The ‘value in kind’ sponsorship from official suppliers such as Atlas Copco Compressors is essential in making this event happen. In its provision of compressed air for 15 of the 46 competitions we know we can rely on Atlas Copco to ensure world-class quality. WorldSkills London 2011 will be a huge boost to the UK economy, leaving a legacy of young people inspired by skills and we want to thank suppliers such as Atlas Copco for helping us make this event happen”.
