New Weldability-Sif Foundation and EAL welding courses launched
Weldability-Sif has just announced that EAL, working alongside the Weldability-Sif Foundation have together, launched two new EAL Level one skills awards “Thermal Cutting Skills” and “Introductory Brazing and Soldering Skills” welder training qualifications.
There are a number of existing Weldability Sif foundation welding courses already available and the complete list of level one skills award welder training qualifications also includes, the Introduction to Skills in Tungsten Inert Gas Welding, Manual Metal Arc Welding, Oxy - Acetylene Welding, Brazing and Soldering, Thermal Cutting and an overview of Welding Skills.

All these qualifications are registered on the QCF, the government framework which sets out how all regulated vocational qualifications are structured, titled and quality assured and which are suitable for drawing further funding from the Government, the Unemployment fund and the Weldability-Sif Foundation.

Each course will take 60 hours to complete and will provide valuable training to those welders who are under skilled in industry.

Adrian Hawkins, Director and Trustee for Weldability-Sif Foundation and AWD Chairman said: “These two awards complete the selection of foundation courses available for the welding industry and for the first time enables these most common welding processes to be taught, creating an excellent base level learning environment for pupils to take their careers further within industrial fabrication.

I would urge all UK colleges to promote training across all 7 qualifications, so that students receive a practical understanding of welding and cutting. The “Thermal Cutting” and the “Brazing & Soldering” qualifications are breaking new ground in offering concise training in an often used, but little trained welding and cutting process.

The “Brazing & Soldering” qualification is vitally important for the refrigeration, heating and ventilating industries as well as for radiator & battery manufacturers and should be offered as a major benefit in general industrial maintenance, whilst the “Thermal Cutting” qualification will benefit all scrap metal operations, general engineering and metal fabrication.”
