Hayward Tyler wins British Business Award
Hayward Tyler Ltd, a leading manufacturer of pumps and motors for the power and oil and gas industries, has won a British Business Award 2008 for its work in China.
The awards ceremony took place last week in Beijing, China. Around 400 guests gathered at the Westin Chaoyang, including HRH The Duke of York. Hayward Tyler won the ‘Innovative Product or Service’ category against competition from other finalists that included Dyson, Standard Chartered and Penguin.

Led by the British Chamber of Commerce in China, the British Business Awards highlights the strong links between China and the UK and rewards innovation, enterprise and endeavour in the fields of business, education and corporate social responsibility. The British Chamber of Commerce in China is an independent, not-for-profit membership-based organisation with more than 2,000 members nationally that provides connectivity for British Business in China.

Judging was a rigorous process that included five stages: written applications; shortlisting by a panel of five judges; online voting; interviews of the top five finalists by a judging panel; then ratification of judging panel results by a separate panel of advisors.

For the ‘Innovative Product or Service’ category, judging criteria included innovation, adaptability to the Chinese market, measurable results and the overall contribution the product or service has made to China as a country and its people. Hayward Tyler first developed the Glandless Pump Motor in the early 1940’s. Since then there have been many refinements and design improvements and today the product is the market leader. The product today is advanced and unique and offers technological and economical advantages to the power market. Hayward Tyler has delivered more than 2,500 units worldwide and has a two-thirds share of the market with this specialised product.

Mark Wood, Sales & Marketing Director, Hayward Tyler Group, commented: “Hayward Tyler is almost 200 years old and has been doing business with China for almost a quarter of a century, establishing a service facility in 2004 specifically for customers in this region. Our products and services are among the most robust and reliable in the world and this award reinforces our position as a world leader in motor and pump technology for power generation and oil and gas markets. The award is a great culmination of the efforts and dedication of all staff across the company.”
