In Salah is an oasis town located in the Sahara desert in central Algeria, whose name comes from the term “good well. In Salah Gas is one of the largest dry gas joint-venture projects in the country. The venture involves the development of seven proven gas fields in the southern Sahara, 1,200km south of Algiers. On-stream since July 2004, the project produces around 9 billion cubic metres of gas a year. In Salah is also the world’s first full-scale carbon dioxide capture project at a gas field. Around one million tonnes of CO2 is being injected into the reservoir each year.
Aibel AS, one of the largest Norwegian oil service companies that engineers, builds, maintains and modifies oil and gas production facilities, has awarded ABLE a contract to supply temperature, pressure and flow measurement instrumentation for gathering and flow lines for the gas wells. The packaged systems are designed to measure and control the flow of gas from the well to the header, and are a critical requirement for the measurement and protection of the gas well gathering and flow lines.
The site conditions are harsh in the Sahara desert, with extreme cold and hot ambient temperatures, sand storms and remote installations, requiring reliable and robust equipment.
Aibel’s Supply Chain Manager, Justin Bedwell, comments “We approached ABLE for this supply contract as they are well known in the industry, with a good track record, and recommendations. ABLE can provide a consolidated package using different manufacturers products, with single point contact, one inspection point and shipping efficiencies”.
