SMS Group

  An order has been placed by the Hoa Phat Group in Vietnam for the supply of two converter shops with a consortium consisting of WISDRI Engineering and Research Incorporation and SMS group.

Seoul-based Hyundai Steel Company has placed an order with SMS group for the supply of a straightening machine for the medium section mill at its Incheon site. The new horizontal roller straightener of type HRM 1400/1250/1100-9M will replace the existing straightener installed in 1995. With this new horizontal straightener from SMS group, Hyundai Steel will be able in future to roll larger sheet piles and beams up to a web height of 450mm.   

A six-strand continuous caster has been provided by SMS Concast, a company of the SMS group, to a new steel plant in Iran. A consortium consisting of Chadormalu Mining & Industrial Co. (CMIC) and Parsland Mines & Industries Development Company (PAMIDCO), both of which hold 100% shares respectively in CPG Engineering & Commercial Services, erected a new steel making plant with a 170 tonne electric arc furnace and a six-strand continuous caster in Ardakan, province of Yazd in central Iran.

To significantly improve productivity and the energy efficiency of production equipment forging press line operators are calling for innovative solutions. The new Eumuco Hasenclever MT eccentric press series is the response from the SMS Group. The technical highlight in the series is seen in the Meer-Torque servo-drive concept that combines high energy, a very short cycle time and optimised energy efficiency.

Taiwanese stainless steel bar producer Walsin Lihwa Corp is to purchase a new high-performance peeling machine from SMS Group. The type PM160 for stainless steel bars is from SMS group’s most powerful peeling machine series and allows bright bars with finished diameters of up to 160 millimeters to be peeled at diameter tolerances up to IT9 and with excellent peeled surface.

South Korea-based SeAH Changwon Integrated Special Steel (SeAH CSS) has commissioned a tube extrusion press line from SMS group. The 50-MN tube extrusion press line installed in Changwon in South Korea has an annual capacity of 35,000 tons of tubes in diameters between two and ten inches in Fe and Ni-based austenitic steels, Duplex and Super-Duplex alloys as well as special steels made of nickel-based alloys.

The Pakistani cold strip producer, International Steels Limited (ISL) earlier this year placed an order with SMS group for the full-line supply of a twin-stand CCM (Compact Cold Mill) in four-high design. In the course of the systematic expansion of its production facilities, ISL has decided to use the flexible and reliable SMS group technology. Since 2011, the Pakistani cold strip producer, located in Karachi, has been operating a reversing cold mill from SMS group.

Spanish company, SIDENOR ACEROS ESPECIALES, has placed an order with SMS group for the modernisation of its bar mill in Basauri. The goals of the modernisation are to achieve a more effective rolling process and an improvement in material properties. The scope of supplies from the SMS group will include all the mechanical, thermal and electrical components, as well as yhe automation system and complete erection and commissioning – which is scheduled for September.

SMS group has been contracted to supply a new coiler for Chinese Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron & Steel and its Zhanjiang hot strip mill. The machine will be specifically designed to coil high-strength grades and thick strips. The first coil is scheduled to be produced at the end of 2017.

Supplying a plant complex for the production of tinplate SMS is helping Miorskij Metalloprokatnyi Zavod (MMPZ-group) located in Miory in the Republic of Belarus. The contract became effective in early 2017. The new works will initially have an annual capacity of 150,000 tonnes. Provisions will be made to increase the capacity to up to 240,000 tonnes at a later stage. The first plant units are scheduled to start producing in the second half of 2018.

SMS group has been granted the final acceptance certificate for the modernised tandem cold mill ‘2100’, by steel producer PAO Severstal at the Cherepovets facility in northwest Russia, and the revamp was completed in a short time. The mill upgrade by SMS group comprised the complete replacement of the entry section and the four mill stands, and the installation of rolling technologies of the latest generation.

An order has been placed with SMS group by Shandong Iron & Steel Group Rizhao (Shandong Rizhao), for the suppky of a Steckel/plate mill. The new plant, to be built in Rizhao in the Chinese province of Shandong, is scheduled to go on stream in 2019. The order comprises the complete engineering package, mechanical key equipment, all electrical and automation systems as well as process know-how.
