SKF ultrasonic leak detector cuts cost of gas leaks
SKF has launched an innovative ultrasonic leak detector designed to offer a quick and simple way for maintenance engineers to pinpoint gas leaks in industrial applications. The simple to use TMSU 1 can reduce maintenance expenses considerably and, just as importantly, can help to improve plant and operator safety by enabling fast and accurate detection.
The new TMSU 1 instrument uses proven ultrasonic technology to detect leaks. This is achieved by the use of an integrated piezoelectric crystal sensor, which is tuned to recognise the high frequency sounds that are generated by turbulence from high pressure gas leaking into a low pressure environment. The sensor can be used to guide the operator to the loudest signal point, enabling the exact position of each leak to be easily identified and the necessary remedial action to be taken.

The TMSU 1 is lightweight and compact, making it a highly portable and simple to use maintenance tool, with a sensor mounted on a flexible tube, for use in restricted areas. The simplicity of the instrument’s design makes is easy to operate with no training or specialist knowledge, minimising costs for users, while its ability to withstand a wide range of operating temperatures, from -10ºC to 50ºC, makes it ideal for use in a diverse variety of industrial environments.

The TMSU 1 ultrasonic detector is supplied in a sturdy carrying case together with a headset, rubber nozzle and batteries that offer a typical life of 20 hours, making it possible to carry out multiple checks without recharging. The Peltor headset supplied with the device provides high quality sound for accurate readings in noisy environments, in addition to acting as ear defenders to protect the health and safety of users.

The TMSU 1 is ideal for use in any industry where gas leak detection is required, suitable for applications incorporating compressed air, pneumatic brakes, vacuums, pressurised gas storage or steam traps.
