SKF pioneers latest lubrication technology
Following a series of highly successful product launches and company acquisitions, such as the VOGEL and Lincoln Industrial buyouts, SKF, the world’s leading knowledge engineering company, has now completed a major stage in its strategy to build its global lubrication systems business, which represents a fundamental part of the SKF Group. This latest development sees lubrication systems now forming one of the company’s key technology platforms, making it a significant player in the lubrication market to provide quality solutions to companies throughout industry, from the heavy sectors, like steel, quarrying and cement, through automotive manufacturing and specialised applications in food production.
With its wealth of expertise, knowledge, global development and production facilities, SKF is now a leading manufacturer of specialised lubrication technology, with an unrivalled range of system design and production services, backed by comprehensive global resources and dedicated customer support. The company’s product offering includes single line lubrication, dual line lubrication, progressive lubrication and centralised lubrication, through its MonoFlex, DuoFlex, ProFlex and MultiFlex lines.

SKF’s lubrication expertise also involves the science of tribology, to study the effects of friction, wear and lubrication on bearings. Studies carried out by the company’s engineering and research centres have indicated that 36% of premature failures occur as a result of lubrication problems, either too much or too little, the wrong type or contaminated lubricants. Accordingly, SKF is dedicated to preventing such lubrication related failures, as well as ensuring optimal bearing performance, through the delivery of the right lubricant, in the right amount, at the right time and to the right lubrication point.

Most recently, SKF joined forces with Imperial College London to open the SKF University Technology Centre in Advanced Modelling and Measurements in Tribology, to focus on providing future lubrication solutions to prolong the life of bearings in a wide range of applications and operating environments.

Tim Veal, SKF Lubrication Systems Manager, said, “Following the recent launch of our latest lubrication innovations, such as the Open Gear Spray System and the new MonoFlex single line systems, we’ve now completed a major strategic phase in the development of our integrated lubrication strategy, which encompasses both state of the art systems and high performance lubricants.”
