On the eve of Europe’s inaugural UID Summit (www.uidsummit.com), Lockheed Martin’s Savi business today announced how its industry-leading SmartChain® I-GUIDES solution can provide a centralized data repository that helps defense forces and their suppliers to keep better track of items marked with unique identification codes. I-GUIDES is an interoperable, standards-based solution that improves item-level supply visibility for all allied defense organizations.
Savi’s I-GUIDES adheres to NATO’s Standardization Agreement (STANAG) 2290 for implementation of uniquely marked items, and it is already used by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and 30 of the top major defense suppliers in compliance with DoD’s own Item Unique Identification (IUID) Policy.

“With I-GUIDES, individual defense organizations in Europe and worldwide can keep better track of each and every item throughout their life cycle while conforming with multi-national standards for asset management,” said London-based John McFadyen, Savi Technology’s General Manager of International Operations. “Whether it’s a jet engine part or a protective vest, I-GUIDES enables defense organizations to uniquely mark items, register them and find them no matter their status or where they’re moved about through local or global supply chains.”

I-GUIDES allows each organization to create its own unique identification code within standardized formats when marking a particular item with two-dimensional bar codes. When searching for the uniquely marked item, information such as its location, maintenance or delivery status can be accessed or updated in a repository with information formats common across multiple participating enterprises. As a result, I-GUIDES users can more easily keep track of items moving from one location or organization to another.

I-GUIDES is a web-hosted software solution that can be purchased through a license or a subscription. It supports a full range of data input approaches and printers to generate 2-D barcodes, can be set up rapidly, and can integrate data with passive RFID labels and other Automatic Identification Technologies to associate the item with cases, pallets or containers transporting them.

When combined with the Savi SmartChain suite, I-GUIDES customers gain fuller returns on investment by improving the management of assets throughout the global supply chain. Savi SmartChain® I-GUIDES also can leverage all types of wireless tracking and sensor technologies to manage assets and inventory anytime and anywhere, monitor asset conditions, audit the history of the asset and know when it requires maintenance or repair.
