New Fixture For Flexural Testing Of Polystyrene
Lloyd Instruments has announced the availability of the new TG4975 dedicated three point bend fixture for testing polystyrene in accordance with the standard EN 12089: 1997 (Method B). This is important in the evaluation of the properties of expanded polystyrene used for thermal insulation. The TG4975 is the latest addition to the company’s extensive collection of flexural jigs for the ‘Plus’ range of materials testing machines.
This fixture is designed to perform three point bend tests on polystyrene samples measuring 300 x 150 x 50 mm (11.81 x 5.91 x 1.97 in). The jig consists of an extruded aluminium base with a fixed centre of 250 mm (9.84 in). Two circular supports are fitted to the base. The sample is placed centrally between the two supports and in parallel with them. An upper loading anvil with a 5/8 in eye end is fixed to the machine's load cell and driven down onto the sample midway between the two supports. The jig is designed for use with loads up to 1000 N (224.8 lbf).

Lloyd Instruments manufactures a large range of standard grips, probes, fixtures and flexural jigs for the broadest possible range of materials testing applications. Grips and fixtures come in a variety of sizes, gripping surfaces, styles and capacities. A Custom Design Grip Service is available for the design of grips, fixtures and attachments for bespoke applications or to customer's own specifications.
