Make Sure Tools Measure Up With MAPAL
With the new UNISCALE-M measuring machine from MAPAL, machine tool users now, for the first time, have a convenient and dependable way of eliminating the losses in productivity and profitability that inevitably result from inadvertently using damaged or out-of-specification cutting tools.

The UNISCALE-M, which is the only machine of its type currently available, can quickly and accurately measure lengths, angles and radii on any type of drill, milling cutter or reamer. This makes it ideal for the inspection of new tools on receipt to ensure that they meet the required specifications before they enter the production chain; for checking tools that are in production use to determine the level of wear; and for carrying out checks on tools that have been reground, to ensure that the regrinding has been carried out correctly.

Based on a high-resolution camera system, the UNISCALE-M incorporates user-friendly software that makes it easy to measure key parameters including, for example, face geometries, peripheral geometries and step lengths in solid carbide cutting tools. Coating thicknesses can also be measured quickly and conveniently and surface details on the tool can be viewed and analysed as an aid to evaluating wear.

Tools with diameters up to 30 mm can be accommodated by the UNISCALE-M, and are easily secured to the tool adaptor with the aid of a simple clamping system. The tool adaptor can be pivoted through 180º to facilitate measurements of, for example, the tip angle on solid carbide drills.

MAPAL’s UNISCALE-M tool measuring machine is solidly constructed and incorporates a granite slab to maximise stability, adjustable vibration-damped feet and a high-precision guide. These features eliminate measurement errors due to vibration and oscillations, and the use of the granite slab also means that the measurements are free from errors produced by temperature fluctuations.

Included with every UNISCALE-M are a storage system for the tool mounting aids, and a logging system that facilitates the recording and organisation of results.
