Friction guides made easy

Turning its engineering and design expertise to friction guides, Accuride International aim to make friction easy for customers. Unlike a telescopic slide which utilises ball bearings for smooth movement, friction guides use a plain bearing surface and no rolling elements. The lack of exposed moving parts makes friction guides suitable for extreme environments where dust and dirt might be present.

Compared to equivalent recirculating ball bearing slides, they are lighter, easier to use and engineered to minimise stress and wear on the friction elements.

The new guides showcase all the benefits that customers have come to expect from Accuride including ease of use, superior performance and designed-in reliability. The strong engineering pedigree has delivered a friction guide that, thanks to its extra-tough anodised aluminium track and superior polymer guide, is hardwearing and long lasting. This longevity adds to the low total cost of ownership and also makes it an attractive alternative to applications that might be over-engineered with costlier solutions.

David Brooks is the Design Engineer behind the new guides and explained: “We have produced a product that goes beyond customer expectations yet still provides a cost-effective solution. Our new guides are lightweight, hard-wearing and easy to use as well as being an alternative drop-in solution for existing guides – and we’re always available to discuss application suitability with our customers.”

There are three variants in the new friction guide range; non-adjustable, auto-adjust and manual adjust with all contact surfaces engineered to produce uniform wear. All guides conform to ISO 12090 1:2011.

Peter Baxter, European Distribution Director for Accurid, commented: “We are delivering a ‘best in class’ friction guide that offers customers across industry a high performance, easy to use product backed by our great engineering team. It’s a product that proves that the best engineering solution is often the most straightforward.”
