Flange valve range extended with labyrinth technology

Plans to extend its IMI Buschjost flange valves range have been announced by IMI Precision Engineering, and are to begin spring 2017. Developed in accordance with the current version of the Pressure Equipment Directive, 2014/68/EU, the larger DN 65, DN 80 and DN 100 valves have been redesigned and are now available as new series 86480, 86500 and 86540.

The valves are suitable for use in many sectors, from general machine and plant construction, through the chemical industry to building and power-plant technology.

Based on the force-lifted piston principle the new flange valves are equipped with proven labyrinth technology. Instead of a grooved ring, the labyrinth piston features floating fitted and slotted PTFE guide rings, which are particularly low-wear and long-lasting as well as insensitive to high temperatures and pressure surges against the flow direction. In comparison to the previous model, the new flange valves withstand – depending on the application – more than 200,000 switching cycles, which means service life has more than doubled.

The IMI Buschjost flange valves have an improved position indicator. It is 50% smaller and features a single sensor for both the ‘open’ and ‘closed’ switch positions. In addition, it is programmable making operation significantly easier, reducing operating errors to almost zero.

Operating directly on the valve spindle, the manual override has a very fast response. With a single 18° turn, the valve is either fully open or closed. There is a mechanical connection between the spindle and plunger, meaning manual stroke adjustment is no longer required. This makes service and maintenance much quicker and easier.

Available now, the DN 65, DN 80 and DN 100 valves are offered in stainless steel as well as in high-grade ductile cast iron, and are suitable for both PN16 and PN40 pressure stages.

From summer 2017, versions with ATEX solenoid and overexcitation, as well as high (200°C) and low-temperature versions (-40°C) will be available.
