Critical Permeability of Valves, Seals, Tubes and Filters

Valves, filters, tubes and pipes are ubiquitous. Sadly they all suffer from the often critical curse that vapours and gasses can permeate through the actual materials things are made from, so it ends up in the places it shouldn't be! From the massive valves on an oil pipeline through to tiny carbon fibre tubes, this can cause enormous problems, damage and product failure.

Even by itself, water vapour is the world's most damaging contaminant and causes billions of pounds of damage every year. Hydrocarbons, solvents and every gas used by industry also have serious issues in this area. Fortunately, permeability specialist Versaperm can go a long way towards eliminating the problem.

Versaperm's solution lies in its wide range of highly sensitive permeability meters which can check both the materials themselves and as well as the complete unit, allowing you to determine the best materials for any specific application. Just testing the materials can be misleading as the manufacturing process can change the vapour permeability of materials by up to 400% and so the finished component also needs to be tested.

The latest range of instruments is both precise and simple to use. In some cases you can produce results in as little as 30 minutes, as opposed to the days or even weeks needed by traditional gravimetric testing. Accuracies are typically in the parts per million range, (parts per billion for some gasses and materials) and the equipment is ideal for general testing as well as QC, lab and system/product development work.

As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm offers a permeability consultancy and a laboratory service for companies that only need to test samples or products on an irregular basis.
