Save time, money and improve quality at the Fastening & Assembly Solutions Exhibition

In the manufacturing industry it is relatively easy to focus on products such as fasteners - however just as important are the practices and techniques of assembly processes. These are clearly overlapping areas but the Fastening & Assembly Solutions Exhibition at Cosford in April is expected to have many exhibitors who deal primarily with improving assembly systems, package integration or design/manufacturing consultants, all who save manufacturers money by improving assembly processes.
An example that recently came to our attention involved a visitor who switched fastening technology and application process – they eliminated a number of problems, improved the production flow and came out with a better quality product at lower cost.

This is not an uncommon story according to organiser Mark Newby (M.D NewbyCom). “We believe that often significant improvements may be made from changing assembly process or techniques, e.g. by moving from a bolt, rivet or clip to an adhesive. Or vice versa sometimes. Alternatively, we have seen examples of manufacturers moving from a liquid adhesive to a tape can have health and safety benefits while eliminating messy or fiddly materials and speeding the assembly itself.”

Facing recent economic events it may be found that change from large batch to smaller production needs may involve introduction of mechanical fasteners as a more appropriate alternative. Going the other way scaling up production can offer the opportunity for small design changes which may greatly reduce and even eliminate assembly processes.

The relaxed environment of Cosford enables engineers from customer and supplier alike to step back a bit and consider wider alternatives – this discussion process of bringing new mental connections together or remaking old ones is greatly facilitated by having all the top people in the industry together in one place so that the full range of alternatives may be fully explored. Enthused Mark Newby “Our exhibitions at Cosford and The National Motorcycle Museum are a proven and fertile arena where everyone in the industry can put their heads together to generate the kind of solutions that are enabling our industry to survive and prosper in the current climate – our next exhibition at Cosford in April will be even more important in this respect.”

Open on April 29th from 10am to 3pm at RAF Cosford, the show is easily reached from just about every direction, being only 15 minutes from the M6 near Wolverhampton, and one minute from J3 of the M54. The venue offers free parking immediately adjacent to the exhibition. Show entry is free and so is a visit to the superb RAF Museum too.

Moreover, the organisers provide a Complimentary Luncheon for manufacturing professionals who visit the exhibition (along with complimentary tea and coffee), and state that if the fare served is considered good enough for the Officers Mess at RAF Cosford, it should be also be good enough for the engineering community too.

All in all it is the organisers aim to ensure that Fastening & Assembly Solutions exhibition facilitates a better design/development process. See more at www.fastening-solutions-exhibition.co.uk.
