Engineering association deliver programme at Advanced Engineering

Both comprehensive technical programmes have major names delivering thought-provoking content about the future of each industry.

Aviation Aerodynamics 2016: 2^nd November

As a result of recent UK government investment into the aerospace industry, which offered a further £365m towards technological research and development, there is opportunity for significant advances to be made in aerospace technology. Aerodynamic engineering is at the forefront of these advances and this technical conference will give delegates a unique opportunity to explore the latest developments and network with specialists in aircraft manufacturing, testing and design.

Highlights of the conference programme include:

• An update from Clean Sky Joint Undertaking on the advances in aerodynamics under the new Clean Sky 2 programme.
• Airbus, will present the 'The Natural Laminar Flow Flight Test of the BLADE Project of CleanSky'.
• Visitors will learn about the innovative SABRE (Synergetic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine) project from the Leading Aerodynamicist at Reaction Engines. This will include component aerodynamic challenges and the potential spin-outs from SABRE, applicable to civil aviation engines.
• The European Space Agency will present on aerodynamics for re-entry space vehicles. This will include the role of aerodynamics on space configurations from HERMES to ExoMars, including mission successful vehicles like ARD, Huygens and IXV is reviewed.  
• QinetiQ will investigate the use of electric motors for engineer simulation in wind tunnel tests, including an overview of the research and work carried out so far.
• Rolls-Royce will give two sessions. The first will give an overview of the UltraFan project, including the aerothermal challenges of integrating sub-systems and maximising component efficiency, before discussing how these challenges were overcome. The second session will consider the application of Boundary Layer Ingestion (BLI) on a large passenger aircraft.

Brakes 2016: 3^rd November

As the automotive industry continues to introduce both new hybrid and electrical components, key challenges arise with integrating braking systems and new technologies. This conference will present those in attendance with the opportunity to learn from leading vehicle OEMs and senior level experts about key engineering solutions for the integration of new technologies and braking systems of the future. Attendees will also be able to participate in roundtable discussions with industry peers to tackle current and future challenges facing brake engineers.

Highlights of the conference programme include:

• McLaren Automotive, Honda and Bentley will be discussing advanced breaking systems and strategies for future breaking systems in road cars and other vehicles. This will include the future requirements in materials, components and vision for how they will be used.
• Learn how Jaguar Land Rover delivers the required pedal feel for its customers and the impact of the Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).
• Bentley will demonstrate the problems with advanced modelling for brake noise propensity prediction and discuss the new challenges in the Automotive Industry and the impact of this on NVH development.
• Volvo Truck will discuss how they are integrating Autonomous Emergency Braking Systems (AEBS). This will include the safety and driveability benefits of AEBS and its use for vehicle control.
• Experts from the University of Bradford will share the current and future challenges of brake noise, vibration and harshness.
