Simulation testing ensures products are top quality

Simulation testing ensures products are top quality
Virtual Reality (VR) means much more than video games, as when purchasing an electrical device you’re invariably presented with a table featuring the part’s working parameters and operational limits. Discovering these limits takes a lot of testing, so can simulations simplify this process? Here, Steve Hughes, Managing Director of REO UK, discusses the details that go into simulating, stress-testing and prototyping electrical components.

igus designs e-skin flat single pods for cleanrooms

igus designs e-skin flat single pods for cleanrooms
igus has developed the world’s first ‘e-skin flat’ single pod - designed specifically to guide cables in compact and particle-free cleanrooms. To ensure quick and easy installation customers can use the e-skin flat to select and combine chambers and then insert the cables in seconds. There is also the option of a new support chain, which strengthens the e-skin flat. This new energy supply system was first unveiled by igus last year at the Hannover show, the technology exhibition for innovation and emerging trends.

Flipping the switch: monitoring electrical equipment

Flipping the switch: monitoring electrical equipment
The Natref petrol refinery, located in the industrial region of Sasolburg, was commissioned in 1971 and is one of South Africa’s oldest inland refineries. Historically, engineers at the refinery have had difficulties monitoring the operations of circuit breakers at the refinery’s substations, leading to increased maintenance costs and unplanned down-time. Here, Ian Loudon, International Sales and Marketing Manager at Omniflex, discusses how alarm annunciators and sequence of events recording came to the aid of plant operational managers at the refinery.

Addressing the threat of interference

Addressing the threat of interference
Whether for condition monitoring or positioning control, fieldbus communication is crucial for connectivity in most modern manufacturing and process environments. Often, however, fieldbus systems are susceptible to ElectroMagnetic Interference (EMI) caused by switching in power supplies, motors and HVAC systems in a plant. Here, Steve Hughes, Managing Director of REO UK, explores the impact of EMI on communications and how this can be mitigated.
