Parker Hannifin has developed an innovative hydraulic saw motor that automatically maintains an optimum cutting speed of 40 m/s, for 35% faster cutting. This translates to up to 4,000 m3 more timber, and as much as 20,000 more euro, per year. In addition to boosting productivity with quicker and more even sawing, the new F11-iP motor eliminates over-revving, minimising the cost of maintenance and downtime.

Sprint Electric has increased its range of digital DC drives up to 2250 Amps (980 KW/1320 HP). All models ranging from 650 to 2250 Amps are offered with two options: Either top entry or bottom entry three phase supply input, and as high voltage (690V AC) or standard voltage (480V AC) models. Available as two quadrant or regenerative four quadrant types, these digital DC drives are ideal for controlling DC motors used in heavy industry applications such as metal working, steel mills, mining, or the cement, rubber and plastics industries.

Mosaic Industries offers a low cost modular solution to stepper motor control, easy on any budget and ideal for space-constrained applications. The Stepper Motor Control Kit integrates an embedded single board computer, the QCard; a plug-in module, the Power I/O Wildcard; and a stepper motor control software package. For ease of prototyping, Mosaic also offers an optional screw terminal board for rapid connect/disconnect of stepper motors or other devices. This modular design is well suited to both small and large applications, instrumentation and automation projects, and where cost and physical size are critical.

Festo has launched two series of high performance electric cylinders employing the company’s unique new tubular linear motor technology. Both series feature similar dimensions and mechanical interfaces as their pneumatic counterparts, making them true ‘drop-in’ electrically-driven alternatives. The cylinders offer fully programmable, closed-loop position, acceleration and speed control, and are ideal for applications that demand extremely fast and accurate positioning capabilities.

We Humans mostly move around freely and use wireless communications like speech and sight! We wouldn’t want to be wired up. How about using electrical motors in a similar way?

Danfoss Drives has added an M5 frame size to its VLT Micro Drive family. The M5 frame size is 11.5 in. H x 6.5 in. W x 9.8 in. D, and covers the three-phase 380 – 480 VAC, 25 – 30 HP range. The drive offers true side-by-side mounting without any derating due to its compact book-style design. An Automatic Energy Optimizer function allows the drive to consume less energy while the Automatic Motor Adaptation feature leverages the motor’s full operating potential. Users will also benefit from up to 150% more torque for up to a full minute, eliminating the need to oversize the drive.

The firmware of JVL’s QuickStep motors has been extended with yet another function: an SSI encoder interface. It is thus possible to integrate absolute encoder functions in the QuickStep integrated stepper motors and in the stepper motor controller SMC75. Typically, absolute-encoders are used when there is a need to continue operation immediately after power is re-applied to a machine or system — without first having to perform a zero-search reset. Another major reason for using absolute encoders is to correct motor position in relation to the actual physical absolute position measured by the SSI encoder.
