WISE believes that greater equality is essential to achieve greater sustainability. The campaign for greater gender diversity in STEM, is calling on employers to build flexibility into the DNA of their policies to create different routes into STEM roles. The call came on the first of WISE’s two day virtual conference; ‘Inclusive growth, transformative action and driving sustainability’.

WISE, the campaign for greater gender balance in science, technology and engineering (STEM), is urging employers to implement returner and retraining schemes to speed up progress towards closing the gender gap in STEM, and in particular in technology and digital roles. There are now over one million women working in core STEM roles, however, in technology women represent just 16% of the IT profession.

However, the organisation highlights that more needs to be done to ensure that more women do not miss out on these opportunities. The comments came as WISE announced its 2019 annual Award winners at a glittering event in London last night.

A level results bust myths about girls and science
WISE, the campaign for gender balance in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) says this year’s A level results in STEM subjects breakdown myths about girls and science. As it releases its analysis of this year’s A level results, WISE says there is much to be excited about but urgent action needed to speed up the pace of change. The results show 1,930 more core STEM A Levels have been awarded to girls in 2019 than in 2018, while the number awarded to boys has dropped by a similar amount (1,792).

WISE, the campaign for greater gender balance in STEM, is calling for women who are working at the cutting edge of technology to enter its new Emerging Technology Award, part of its annual Awards. The Award aims to showcase women working in ground-breaking technology or producing products that could revolutionise the future for consumers or organisations.
