The University of Derby has revealed a refreshed package of SME support to ‘strength the capability of businesses in Chesterfield and the surrounding region, with access to research and expertise that can help foster innovation.’ The support was unveiled to businesses at Barrow Hill Roundhouse at the launch of Made in Chesterfield last month. It follows the recent announcement that the Spanish train manufacturer Talgo has established its new head office in Chesterfield and in 2034 the town will get an HS2 station.

Twelve young people recently enjoyed a day at Leicester’s National Space Centre, celebrating their achievements as part of educational outreach project Inspiration Rover. The project, which was led by mature student Henry Bennett from the University of Derby with support from fellow undergraduates, academics and alumni, saw the young people involved help develop a scale model of the Mars Science Laboratory Rover using a design from NASA Jet Propulsion Labs.

  On 27th September, the University of Derby’s new £12m STEM centre was officially opened by HRH The Earl of Wessex. The new 4,200m2 STEM Centre, part funded by a £5m grant from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), provides an extension of computer studios and specialist facilities for engineering, technology and computing students.

The University of Derby has secured funding from Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to develop a new masters degree course which will support current and future needs across the engineering sector and strengthen graduate prospects.

Derby’s leading engineers and advanced manufacturers launched their vision to make the city the world leader in making high-value and top quality products on Thursday, June 26 2014. Key players from the city’s manufacturing industry were among the 70-plus guests at the unveiling of the multi-million pound Institute for Innovation in Sustainable Engineering (IISE) at Lonsdale House.
