Multi-vendor demos at the IANA show in Chicago
Two multi-vendor interoperability demos, plus other products from member companies will be presented by Sercos at Industrial Automation North America Show (IANA) in booth E-4448 in the McCormick East Building, Chicago, on 12th-17th September. The systems demonstrate that Sercos has the functionality and performance to operate synchronised motion, I/O and safety while allowing full TCP/IP communication with each device over a single Ethernet ring.

Planning and Installation Guide for SERCOS III Available
SERCOS North America announced the availability of the SERCOS III Planning and Installation Guide. This guide is intended to support engineers and electricians during the planning and installation phase of a SERCOS III network in order to guarantee trouble-free operation of machines and systems. Cabling with both copper wire and optical fiber is described for both IP20 and IP65/67 protection classes. The specification is based on international standard IEC 61918 (Installation of communication networks in industrial premises), with an added installation profile for SERCOS III, which will be standardized in IEC 61784-5.

Open-source SERCOS lll master library available

SERCOS International announces that an open source software driver library for the SERCOS lll real-time Ethernet communication system master implementation is now available via the sourceforge.net online-portal. The software can be used by interested users according to the LGPL license, without any license fees and without any usage limitations.

SERCOS International has announced it will provide an open source software driver library for the SERCOS lll real-time Ethernet communication system master implementation. SERCOS III thus will be the first high performance real-time protocol which makes driver software available as source code, without any license fees and without any usage limitations.

Festo and Dürr adopt SERCOS III

The group of companies actively supporting the SERCOS III real-time Ethernet solution has grown, with Festo AG, one of the largest German automation specialists, adding the international communication standard to its portfolio. Festo manufactures pneumatic and electrical components and systems. As Festo’s first SERCOS customer, Dürr AG will be integrating Festo solutions into the Dürr EcoRPC robot guidance system. Dürr is a leading machine and plant-manufacturing group with around 90% of its business in the automobile industry worldwide. Dürr also supplies the aviation, mechanical engineering, and chemical and pharmaceuticals industries.

CIP Safety on SERCOS Specification Released

CIP Safety on SERCOS Specification Released
SERCOS International today announced that the evaluation by TÜV Rheinland and BGIA St. Augustin of the CIP Safety on SERCOS specification has been completed and it is being released as a function-specific profile (FSP Safety) for Industrial Ethernet-based SERCOS III. The extensions specified by SERCOS International will be included in Edition 2.2. of the CIP Safety specification and will be published in the IEC 61784-3 international safety standard. Thus, users of the SERCOS III real-time Ethernet technology can rely on an established network-spanning safety protocol, CIP Safety of the ODVA (Open DeviceNet Vendors Association).
