What keeps India's taxis moving?

What keeps India's taxis moving?
The polymer bearing company igus illustrates just how robust iglidur plastic plain bearings are using a real Bollywood film as an example. In Bangalore and many other Indian cities motorised taxi rickshaws are fitted with the company's lubricant-free polymer bearings. These are used as main hub bearings on the anti-dive device as well as at other bearing points.

Maintenance-free igubal plastic bearings increase system durability

Maintenance-free igubal plastic bearings increase system durability
The igubal system provides design engineers with a complete range of self-aligning bearings that are made completely of tribo-optimised plastic. The type series from the bearings specialist igus (UK) comprises of rod end bearings, flange, pivoting and pedestal bearings, as well as ball and socket joints. In many cases, the maintenance-free bearings replace metallic components. Up to 80% of the weight can be saved and the parts give excellent vibration dampening.

Economical plain plastic bearings make wind power plants more attractive to private investors

Economical plain plastic bearings make wind power plants more attractive to private investors
Only a few years ago small wind turbines were manufactured using simple mechanical design and control technology. Today this has evolved into increasingly high-tech products which compare well with larger systems. Currently small wind turbines are used mostly for the power supply of houses, geographical measuring stations or on boats, to support heating systems and feed power into home grids. Going beyond that, experts predict a prosperous future for wind energy in electricity production in developing countries. The “Antaris 2.5” small wind turbine looks set to have a great future – profiting both technically and economically from the igus polymer plain bearings.

A Basic Guide to Continuous-flex Cables

Cables constructed in layers are significantly cheaper to produce, therefore some manufacturers offer 'continuous-flexing cable' with this low-cost approach. However, these cables are often constructed without attention to pitch length, pitch direction or centre-filler design and typically have fleece wraps and binders with a sleeve-extruded jacket.

No more costly replacements with plastic energy chains

No more costly replacements with plastic energy chains
Kronopol in Zary, Poland is one of the largest producers of particleboards and derived timber products in the world. It is the only company where all three types of derived timber product boards are produced on one site. The annual board production is 1.3 million m2 and is exported to more than 40 countries.

Achieve energy efficiency with 60 % less consumption

Achieve energy efficiency with 60 % less consumption
Energy chain systems not only transport energy, data and media to machines and systems. They also influence their energy consumption costs. How much pull-push force, or driving force, is required at a given speed to move an energy chain? How light or stable do energy chains have to be for minimum energy to be consumed? Modern plastic energy chains and Chainflex® cables from igus UK, help in the design and operation of machines that are efficient in terms of energy and cost.

Plastic plain bearings for solar technology from igus

Plastic plain bearings for solar technology from igus
SolarOptimus tracking systems are the latest Conergy photovoltaic systems. The twin-axis drive systems are controlled by an astronomical algorithm which increases the production efficiency of eco-friendly energy by around 30%. To enable the systems to run maintenance-free over longer periods even under extreme weather conditions, Conergy decided to use igus components for all plain bearing applications as well as rod end bearings and linear units.

Adjustable linear bearings

Adjustable linear bearings
Adjustable clearance, lubrication-free and resistance to contamination are today’s current trends in linear technology. Keeping in line with these, the plain bearing expert igus® have developed a new DryLin® W linear guide with a turn-to-fit function for manual setting of the clearance. The name speaks for itself. The new linear unit was first shown at Motek 2008 and is currently being launched in the UK.

Profile roller energy chain P4 for fast, quiet movement

Profile roller energy chain P4 for fast, quiet movement
With the development of the roller energy chain more than 10 years ago, igus® has successfully designed a safe solution for the transmission of energy and data for cranes. Since then, energy chain systems have been proving their abilities in even the toughest of crane applications the world over. Since 2006, the numbers of large shipyard cranes being equipped with energy chains from igus® has run into double figures. In June 2008, the 375th ship-to-shore crane was equipped with an igus® energy chain®. So far, in the field of RTGs and RMGs the company has now equipped more than 2,500 cranes world-wide.

Triflex RS for compact cable guidance

Triflex RS for compact cable guidance
Plastic corrugated tubes used in robotic applications can bend and tear because they cannot absorb torsional movements very well. Energy chain experts igus® have already developed the Triflex R; a multi-dimensional energy chain system with complete freedom of movement in the X-, Y- and Z-axes. Now, there is a new universal module available called Triflex RS especially for robotic applications in cramped conditions. The system guides the energy chain close to the robot arm, and avoids any looping.

First GigE cable for energy chains

First GigE cable for energy chains
At the last Vision trade show, GigE (Gigabit Ethernet) – as an alternative to FireWire, USB, and CameraLink – was referred to as the new future standard. The first camera manufacturers have already presented camera specific cables for the consumer market. However, the industrial market for visual automation demands that the Ethernet cables tolerate high mechanical loads. igus® have developed the world’s first GigE cable for continuous dynamic use in energy chains to meet this need.
