Geo Kingsbury Machine Tools Limited

An aerospace supplier in the UK has been awarded the contract to produce the pylon box assembly that attaches the engine to each wing of an Airbus A319, A320 and A321 NEO (New Engine Option) single-aisle jetliner. 

Introduced by German machine tool manufacturer Zimmermann, its new portal, 5-axis milling machine is at the lower end of its price range. Available in the UK and Ireland through sole agent Geo Kingsbury, the compact FZU is intended primarily for prototype, tool and mould making as well as machining of composite components such as airframes.

The Airbus A350 family of wide-body jetliners requires large composite components which are being machined in a pair of German-built Zimmermann FZ33 portal machining centres at a specialist subcontractor in England. Supplied by sole sales and service agent, Geo Kingsbury, each machine has a working envelope of 16x3x1.5m and an installed weight of 168 tonnes.

Located at the University of Sheffield’s Rotherham facility, an additional company has been appointed a tier 1 partner by the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing.The new member is Geo Kingsbury, whose managing director Richard Kingsbury now sits on the research centre's board of directors.

At a High Wycombe engineering company many years ago, Ray Harris started out on a five year mould and tool making apprenticeship, at just 16 years old. After two years he left as much of this type of work was being offshored and he could see little future in it. Harris moved to a nearby subcontractor that specialised in supplying components for Formula 1 and has worked in the industry ever since, both in the supply chain and in-house for two leading F1 teams.

Small to medium-size wing components for the Airbus A330 family of long-range, wide-body jetliners are now in production through a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) which is in operation at a leading aerospace subcontractor in the south of England. The FMS incorporates five Hermle 5-axis, vertical-spindle machining centres - four C 42 Us and a larger C 52 U, the first to be installed in the UK.

German turning machine builder, Index, has launched a second eight spindle CNC multi-spindle automatic, designated MS40-8, capable of turn-milling components from bar up to 40mm diameter. The manufacturer’s first eight spindle multi, with a bar capacity of 24mm, was introduced in 2011. Machine availability in the UK and Ireland is through sole sales and service agent, Geo Kingsbury, Gosport.

Manufactured by the German company, Hermle, three- to five-axis CNC machining centres can be equipped with a new, automated workpiece handling system that requires low capital investment. UK and Ireland agent, Geo Kingsbury, said that the equipment can be factory fitted or retrofitted to machines already in use.

After a 5-axis machining centre experienced catastrophic failure, and subcontractor, Weymouth-based FGP Systems had to continue supplying 12 aircraft seat tray table assemblies per day, which were being produced on it, they looked for a quick solution. It was to buy a new, German-built Hermle C 400 machining centre, which was supplied by UK agent Geo Kingsbury in a lead-time of two weeks.

  Now being sold and serviced in the UK and Ireland by Gosport-based Geo Kingsbury are the grinding machines manufactured in Germany by Haas Schleifmaschinen, under a sole agency agreement signed at the beginning of 2017.

Launched at the AMB 2016 show in Stuttgart during September, the second generation of the G200 turn-mill centre from German manufacturer INDEX is now available in the UK and Ireland through Geo Kingsbury.

Explaining the advantages of using German-built INDEX CNC multi-spindle automatics (multis) has been published by Geo Kingsbury. When producing highly accurate turn-milled parts, a 40% increase in price-performance ratio is claimed for INDEX MS-Series multis, which have six (or eight) independently controllable C-axis spindles served by static and driven tools.

A prominent German manufacturer of high precision, 3-5-axis machining centres, Hermle AG, has added the C250 to the C400 model that it launched in 2012. In the process, it has started to create a new machine series that sits alongside the manufacturer’s core range, which comprises six models from C12 to C 62.

A new, high frequency spindle option has been introduced by SHW Werkzeugmaschinen for its fork milling head, which may be specified for use on its large capacity machining centres sold in the UK and Ireland by Geo Kingsbury. The head has continuously variable A- and C-axis movements, providing full 5-axis machining capability.

The Hermle C 60 U MT 5-axis mill-turn centre fitted with the latest Heidenhain TNC 640 CNC system is the subject of a new video published by Geo Kingsbury which was shot at the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Centre (NAMRC) in Rotherham, A 1.5-tonne steel billet is seen being machined to leave a component weighing nearly two-thirds less at just 565 kgs.

German machine tool manufacturer, Hermle, is integrating additive manufacturing capability into a 5-axis machining centre in a move that heralds a profound change in complex metal component production. 

A new, 5-axis machining centre has been added to the Hermle C-series range, which now consists of seven models. The C 32 U dynamic is capable of fully interpolative 5-axis profiling as well as 5-sided machining within a working envelope of 650 x 650 x 500 mm. The single-lift machine can be transported as a single unit and has three-point support requiring no special foundations. Availability is through sole UK and Ireland agent, Geo Kingsbury.
