  It has been announced that the FDB Electrical series of FDB 19 heavy duty RCCB units is designed to overcome inherent earth leakage or inrush currents, combining a variable sensitivity and time delay RCD together with a triple pole MCCB (minimum 16 KA) to provide overcurrent and short circuit protection.

FDB Electrical have released the FDB11 which is a general purpose RCD panel unit providing overload and short circuit protection for industrial, academic, institutional and corporate applications. Additionaltly FDB Electrical want the best for their customers and have made installation quick and easy with the FDB11 housed in a sheet metal enclosure.

Now offering its technology in component form to panel builders wishing to configure their own systems, FDB Electrical specialise in industrial electrical protection equipment. The FDB range includes many panel mount devices and system elements. The FDB EMGUARD earth line monitor range includes their 110V, 240V and 440V units – the 110V unit in particular being of interest since this is a rating not commonly offered elsewhere.

Multi-way housed earth fault protection system, the FDB2 RCBO unit, shares DC immune technology with its smaller sister unit the FDB11. FDB2 offers 2, 3 and 4 way options as standard with approval by Network Rail for use in DC electrified areas where it provides general purpose earth leakage protection, including overload and short circuit protection, for AC equipment without the problems of nuisance tripping associated with DC induced currents.

Where protection of AC equipment is required in areas adjacent to powerful DC currents – as in electrified rail environments – then the special technology of the FDB11 RCBO panel is typically called for as approved by Network Rail.

FDB Electrical Ltd has recently completed a new contract to supply their FDB19/STS special-purpose power supply units for use by Royal Marines landing craft such as the RM rapid-response/patrol boat. The current order comes after FDB first supplied equipment for this application as long ago as 2004. Typically RM landing craft were used to patrol the harbour approaches at Weymouth and Portland during the 2012 Olympic sailing events.

The EFR-4/EFR-5 Earth Leakage Protection Relay from FDB Electrical forms part of their extensive Optima range of low cost, high specification RCD’s and can be specified at a wide range of trip levels and response times for precise system protection. The EFR-4/EFR-5 is designed for medium to high current applications where space is a limitation. It is housed in a compact Din-rail mounting enclosure complete with integral 28 or 46mm C.T. sensory coil and fitted with test, reset buttons and LED status indication.

FDB Electrical have once again addressed one of the major issues in electrical safety – that of earth continuity – with their EMGUARD series. This is a low priced series of very compact earth continuity monitors having a wide range of earth continuity impedance settings, but so designed that it is possible to set beyond the parameters specified by BS4444. The ultra-low power circulating in the pilot earth/loop (0.06W) means that it can be readily incorporated into intrinsically safe systems.
