Clarke is not exactly clear which type of magic he refers to in the quote: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Is advanced technology (in all its forms) indistinguishable from threatening black magic or the otherworldly magic of miracles?

In 1880 the first movie cameras were developed by Thomas Edison and William Dickson. The seed for video surveillance had been planted. During World War 2, miniature portable cameras appeared, making covert surveillance possible for the military. Shortly after, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) was first used in Germany to monitor the launch of V2 rockets. And the rest, as they say, is history. But the history of surveillance is far from over.

Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider Chemigraphic has established a brand new ‘programme manager’ function within its sales and planning team. The new position is a direct result of Chemigraphic’s newly implemented ERP system, IFS and will enable the sales and planning team to work more effectively with each of its customers.

Chemigraphic has continued to grow by implementing a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system IFS Applications 10. The implementation is entirely cloud-based and Chemigraphic is one of the first UK businesses to have had this version of IFS implemented from scratch. IFS Applications 10 was launched by leading enterprise software provider, IFS, at its World Conference in Atlanta in May. It was cited to be the “most important investment in its user interface” by the company at the time.

The potential uses for 3D printing were widely misunderstood when it first appeared on the scene. Tech pundits and futurologists joined forces to proclaim that 3D print would usher in a consumer revolution, as individuals took control of the means of production for themselves. But the benefits of 3D printing are now actually reshaping the manufacturing sector, rather than making it redundant.
