HIGH SPEED LABELLER FOR PREMIER JAMS
Premier Foods, Chivers Hartley Division of Cambridge have specified a Kosme machine for the high speed labelling of their quality jams and preserves. The versatile machine is one of the Kosme Merkur modular range which has initially been set up for wet glue label application. It has replaced a competitors labelling machine which was unable to maintain the production standards set by the company.
The requirement was for the application of body and back patch labels, with an optional lollipop label where the tag is secured beneath the body label to provide a ‘tamper evident’ facility. The main brand bespoke designed glass container comprises circular rims top and bottom, encompassing a non-symmetrical oval body shape. Mechanical orientation of the glass container is necessary for accurate label placement and has been accommodated via base notch orientation, with a throughput speed of 500cpm being achieved.

High accuracy covering label positioning can be maintained, with respect to location and squareness / skew etc., conducive to the level of precision work required with high quality goods. The machine can also be easily adapted to accommodate many labelling formats on a wide range of food containers, covering different materials, sizes and shapes, to complement the impressive range of packaging work undertaken by Premier Foods for their branded products which includes ‘retailer own label’ goods sold through major supermarkets.

Premier Foods are a renowned supplier for many of the UK’s most popular and iconic food brands, with their products being an accepted item on the nation’s breakfast and dining tables. With over 60 manufacturing sites, the company sets high standards for all aspects of their manufacturing processes and the Kosme machine will enable them to accommodate future changes in throughput or production requirements.

The Kosme Merkur labelling machines have been designed as modular units with ‘plug & play’ interchangeable labelling stations. They are capable of a high degree of adaptation to meet changes in both container and label shapes, materials and sizes as well as advancements in technological requirements. In common with all other Kosme machines, the Merkur is suitable for cold glue, self adhesive and hot-melt labelling applications. With a well established pedigree, these machines also combine speed and reliability with the added bonuses of minimum maintenance and reduced running costs.
